Curious to know if this series is any good, mainly because there aren't many Conan comics I have not read at this point and it sucks not having a bunch of Conan to read every month. The series seems to be fairly affordable from a cursory search on Ebay. I am a bit apprehensive of these comics because Conan has a family...there's noting wrong with having a family, but I feel like it doesn't quite suit the character all that well and it limits the stories that can be told significantly.

Okay, cool! Seems I've got a good amount of Conan comics to collect and read.

I got all 55 issues for like 90 dollars a year or two ago but haven't really gotten down to reading them yet. I've read all the Dark horse and recent stuff but haven't read all of the King Conan. I personally dislike Conn's character, but there's no reason not to read the stories. I'd definitely recommend it from what I've seen.

Yes, mostly. The series starts off with some great Thomas/Buscema adaptations. Alan Zelenetz has a good run next, but his storylines are abandoned around issue 30 when he leaves the series. It’s a little jarring, but Don Kraar manages to get it back on track fairly quickly with an extended war story that lasts until 49 or so. The last few issues, written by Jim Owsley, go back and fill in the missing storyline from earlier in the series.
I enjoyed this series a lot. There are some rough spots but, overall, it’s pretty solid. Hope you enjoy it.

Even with the DeCamp/Carter stuff it's definitely worthwhile. I've been rereading the Dark Horse reprints of the early Thomas years lately and it's been a blast. At its best, it's some of the best fantasy comics ever made.

You also get to see some early pencil work by Marc Silvestri.

His name is a testament to Lin Carter and L. Sprague de Camp lack of imagination. But, this series is written by Thomas, so I do want to read it even if I have to endure Conn's existence. I'll try to get the series as full lot for as cheap as I can find it. Don't want to over pay in case I end up not enjoying it too much.

I'll get down to reading it when I get the time but I do hope the generally low price is not a testament to the quality of the stories. Also I brought the series because I'm somewhat of a completionist and want to have all the Conan comics but I'm aware that Roy Thomas left the series after some issues. Also if you want to see if you like the stories first, I'd suggest you read it online for free.

I am solely interested in reading the issues written by Thomas. But I may very well end up disliking even the issues written by him. I've read the Hour Of The Dragon trade paperback released by Marvel and I can't say it left eager pursue the further adventures of King Conan accompanied by his wife Zenobia.

We share a similar sentiment. I'd significantly prefer reading a story of Conan before he was King. Conan the family man doesn't appeal to me as much. The King Conan stories that don't involve Zenobia, Conn, et al. are significantly more captivating in my opinion. That being said, I've heard great things about the Marvel King Conan series so I'll hold up on being too judgmental until I've read all the stories myself.
