So, I was searching Amazon and I stumbled across something that made me do a double-take:
Yeah.
Just skimming the sample we get such Cimmerian names as "Bashera" and "Krulag". The list of characters has a "King Nimbus" of "Aqualonia". Not much Hyborian worldbuilding (or shall I say "Hyperborian", as LaRoch does?) apart from Crom and Picts. I did see an "Alita" listed, described as a "Frost Succubus" who may or may not be the daughter of a Frost Giant. The titles of all chapters are listed and mentions of Venarium are conspicuous by their absence.
In his acknowledgement (where Howard is never mentioned), LaRoch states:
"There are many holes in the Conan timeline. This work is intended to fill some of those gaps."
I didn't think that something would come along that made Harry Turtledove's young Conan novel look good by comparison but here we are, folks.

I imagine the only reviewer , who gave it 5 stars , is the author LOL

So where are the legal bounds on something like this? I know overseas things a little squishier, but here I would think there'd be some problem with it...unless they A) don't know about it or B) know about it and are good with it. Not sure which is worse.

It's been out since November 2021, so it doesn't appear to have risen to the IP Holding Company's level.

So, I decided to yandex around for a while and see if I could learn anything about the writer. No luck thus far, but I did find some interesting things about the publisher... gighustlers.com/dorrance-publishing-scam-review/Haha! Someone's been re-watching Three Days of the Condor. Apparently it's a firm that's been around forever churning out manuscripts from housewives and pensioners who want to write novels, regardless of skill or talent (which is not to say that such people don't often have skill and talent, just that Dorrance doesn't care whether or not they do). It's almost like a predecessor to wattpad or fictionpress.net, or in this case fanfiction.net. Legal? Technically no. But then technically neither is fanfiction. This is probably being allowed for the same reason that is.

My God, he actually called the sequel The Riddle of Steel. Can he do that? Because that's a phrase very specifically associated with the Milius movie, meaning he could be on shaky legal grounds. Can someone who understands these matters better weigh in?
