Yeah, if you’re aiming for 10k-15k as a success, what’s the point? You might be able to get a good team short term as a labor of love, but after that? The original series and DH worked best at telling a long term story (I’d argue SSOC was best at adaptations and hit or miss at originals). If they can start with a two year Black & Red saga (with a quality team for the long haul) it might generate a modicum of interest since that was a big hole in the DH era.

Right, had my reservations from the beginning, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't have some expectations when I heard that Conan was going back to Marvel. An SSOC fan from when it was the read deal I eagerly went to my local comics and entertainment store to pick up issue 1 of the new helping, it was ok as a comic, but it was a shit disappointment Marvel Magazine wise, cheap bastards used the same size format as their other offerings. No large Joe Jusko type painted cover, no in your face B&W interior art and story, some REH adaptations. Some of the art was kinda good, but overall a money grab rip off. Well, they got the AAEEEIII! part right.

Back up the truck for Truman and Giorello to produce the remaining tales as original graphic novels, no floppies, the direct market is dying. Start with Queen of the Black Coast, then keep going.

If anyone's on Twitter Malmberg is asking for suggestions for writers/artists/colourists , I've suggested Truman, Giorello and Villarrubia if anybody wants to put in their threepenny worth!

Whomever ends up publishing Conan... my sincere hope is that you do not milk it for every penny you think it's worth. I promise you that one really good series will sell better than one mediocre series with multiple bad spin-offs. Every time a company does this, the spin-offs bomb and the main series gets dragged down.

I think they should take a breather for awhile.

Spain is producing new Howard comic material under the public domain, and the Netflix series is still nowhere to be seen, the IP needs something to boost itself. who do you thing that will take the licence?, Image?, Cabinet own produced ?

The idea seems to be Cabinet/Funcom/whoever will do it themselves.
Boy, looking back, the Brian Wood decision looks worse and worse. The title has literally NEVER fully recovered from that point.

Yeah that series was the beginning of the end for ultra high quality Conan comics. It's been all downhill since they decided on Wood and Cloonan. The direct market is on its last legs at this point. Monthly Conan comics aren't going to work regardless of the creative team. OGN's are the way to go.

There hasn't been a title more gone to waste in the history of comics.

Genuinely surprised to see Conan slip through the fingers of the Mouse. While this means an end to the current underwhelming run of Marvel, we don't yet know who will pick up the license next. And the Public Domain has horrors of its own.

Conan License To Move On From Marvel Comics
As you may remember Hun I'd been expecting something along these lines since the beginning of the year. The guest presence on the forum had dropped noticeably over the months after Jim Zub made his last post back in September 2021 and I suspected that was due to Marvel staff no longer visiting the forum. I'm certainly glad for all the collectors out there that they will be finishing up on their run of reprints.

I'm not on twitter but if I was I'd suggest at least one 60 page graphic novel in black and white penned by Roy Thomas and drawn by Roberto de la Torre - in all it's full on Savage Sword Buscemaesque glory. Second I'd support your statement and have Tim Truman write and Tomas Giorello draw what johnnypt suggested - the Black and Red sequence either as one long run or a couple of full colour graphic novels.
