One more thing... Any Conan material should point towards the mature public. Conan is not for the kids. Never.

The idea seems to be Cabinet/Funcom/whoever will do it themselves. Boy, looking back, the Brian Wood decision looks worse and worse. The title has literally NEVER fully recovered from that point. I agree... that was the beginning of the end.

For me it is great news to know Marvel will not be doing any new Conan from now on. All they have done since 2019 is forgetable to say the least. Their Conan omnibi, though, are in general a great product, with good quality and I'll keep buying the Savage Sword omnibi as long as they keep it running. You put quality people on from the start (aka Cory), it shows in the product.

I agree... that was the beginning of the end. It was even more disappointing because the first couple issues looked promising. Cloonan's art wasn't the typical style for Conan, but her Belit looked great. After that initial story arc, however, it started to go downhill fast. Hard to believe that was a decade ago already...

According to Malmberg on Twitter "Their last book is in December but we will have our own Archival program/".
Sounds pretty definitive to me.
No word on Savage Avengers...
Also... I agree - Brian Wood's Conan run killed my interest in the character for the next few years. It was a complete turd of a comic. Marvel's recent output has been mostly middle-of-the-road adventure fluff... enjoyable, but the best stories have already been done.

Can someone explain to me how this public domain thing works? If Conan is in the public domain, can't Marvel keep making Conan comics?

Some more words from Fredrik Malmberg: We had a wonderful run with Marvel Comics but ultimately they have decided not to extend their license beyond this year," the executive tells ComicBook.com. "Conan has more than 50 years of comic book publishing. We took the decision to pick up the baton ourselves, not only for Conan but all the other wonderful characters and IP that we control. The publishing program will commence next year but exact details are not final yet."It's unclear what this means for the character's future in the Savage Avengers title, which is launching its latest volume this Wednesday featuring the Barbarian serves as its anchor character. Malmberg adds that he hopes Heroic and Marvel are able to work out a deal to have the character still appear. "We enjoy a great relationship with Marvel and hope to do cross overs and that Conan will appear now and then in Savage Avengers but nothing is planned as of this moment," the executive adds.

License out for back issues and allow him to appear in Marvel comics, but just not star in any books. They don't know what to do with him him a solo title anyway. You know when the Conan in Conan 2099 feels the most like Conan than in any other Marvel comic, there's problems.

Regarding the Classic Marvel Conan I have two wishes to ask from Fredrik Malmberg:
1) Please finish the "Savage Sword" and "King Conan" Omnibus lines.
2) I'd love to see an Omnibus line of "Roy Thomas'Conan" collecting ALL Conan stories written by Roy Thomas in internal chronological order.

I do worry whether Malmberg and co. will be able to put collections together as well as Cory at Marvel has been able to do. Seems a lot of work , and with the quality of the stories generally not as good , will the benefit in sales out-way the cost

Wonder whether Marvel will be able to , or want to , reprint the existing omnis/epics?

Wonder whether Marvel will be able to , or want , reprint the existing omnis/epics? I think their main priority will be to complete the Conan the Barbarian omnis. The last volume of CtB omnibus should be in the solicitation this week along with the CtB epic collection. I doubt we'll be getting any reprints of the earlier out of print volumes. They could go for 2 Colossal Conan volumes (DH style) right at the end covering the Roy Thomas runs on SSoC and CtB - that'd great and incredibly heavy
