Just …stop…time to take a step back, look at all options and then try to move forward. Six years for streaming and over a decade on film have come to nothing. The Arnold Conan film at this point seems more desperation than the most desirable option.
Jen really effed us up.

If the never ending delays are in relation to an Arnold Conan money grab I hope it stays delayed until Arnie is too old to walk down his block without wanting a nap.
Arnie had his time, the 80's CtB was that, CtD to a much lesser extent, I'm happy to leave it at that. I wouldn't want Arnie to come back as Conan for a number of reasons, and I hate the thought of keeping that image going, Arnie played Conan at a stage in his career, but Conan was never Arnie, not the image most of us had when we read the books or comics.

Why did it take the Arnie interview for Fredrik to acknowledge that there's no Netflix series?
We had the same thing last time with the Amazon deal - where we found out through a podcast with Condal's friends.

Yeah, wasn’t it a week or two ago we were still getting the cryptic stay tuned messages before the cryptic confirmation? I know you don’t usually make a big announcement if something’s not going to happen but it is odd we keep finding things out from other sources.

I've felt for years we were being strung along.

What are the chances that HBO could purchase the scripts Ryan turned into Amazon, then turn that into his next project after House OfThe Dragon. I hate to sound like a broken record, but that’s what I want most to happen.

I'd like both: a movie to wrap up the loose ends with the Arnold version, and a series reboot. We're getting two Batman on film simultaneously before long, it can work for Conan, too.

Best case scenario for this is HBO gets the rights and has Condal do it after House is done. Warners has to get their finances in order first. I’m fine with the Arnie King Conan flashback idea but really don’t have an interest in a movie at this point. The idea of a real trilogy died on 1984 and I didn’t care for Crown of Iron, not sure if the Legend version will just be a modification of that.

The basic idea was that Conan gets pulled out of self imposed exile to help Osric defend Shadizar from an invading horde tied to the Set cult.

Could Amazon sue any studio that Ryan works with to bring a Conan series to life, since he worked on Conan scripts for Amazon that they hold the copyrights to?

They definitely couldn’t use those scripts, which would make it difficult for Ryan to write at least versions of anything he turned in, lest it become a John Fogerty situation. It may be way too much of a hassle to bother with having him involved. But it’s also not Amazon’s property, so they may have limited rights over what can and can’t be done and by who.

That’s truly development hell, Amazon having copyrights on scripts, but no rights to Conan!

The big problem is they missed their window for a streaming series with the big boys. During the COVID lockdown years studios and streaming services were throwing money around freely when it came to budgets. Now... not so much. Streaming services aren't making these companies as much money as they should be. Now all of the platforms are getting more selective with their projects and Conan's budget and toxic masculinity are going to be a real tough sell in the current climate. So I would say the Streaming Series is dead as of right now.
Maybe, maybe, we can get an animated series. But I doubt it. Animated programming is being gutted, too.
Which leaves us with a movie...Can you do a quick and dirty B movie with Arnold as the Legend of Conan? Sure. But should they? I don't know. The Red Sonja movie looks like it got the B Movie treatment and it's been crickets on that since they finished shooting. If that comes out and bombs, or has to go direct to streaming/video, it would be another dagger in the gut to Conan's chances.
I hate to say it, but I think they missed their window over all. We could have had a great series with Condal at the helm at Amazon.

Maybe another Arnie Conan, that included flashbacks to his youth with a well casted young Conan could pass the torch and open doors to a new series be it film or streaming.

Small comfort. Like I said, they need to take a step back, stop chasing things right now and let things settle down. It may take years at this point, but we’ve had too many substandard projects to settle for a half baked idea just out there because they wanted something out. It took a century to get John Carter onto screen and it tanked. But I can watch it from now on and have something at least in the ballpark of what I saw in my mind when I read the books. 1982 is it for now until something better comes, if ever.
