I liked it just fine. It’s not Howard, nor will it ever be (unless it’s written by Scott Oden 😎) but it was an interesting and fun read. It started rather weirdly, but quickly settled into a good Conan vs demon/ creature yarn. I would have liked it to be a bit longer, with a bit more background about the creature and the events that transpired before Conan has this particular encounter. Also, if I wrote a Conan tale I would never have him “scream” for any reason; I would have went with “roared” or something. But overall it was a decent story. I gave it five stars for Amazon reviews, but after the initial flush of excitement it feels more like a three/four star yarn.

Fantasy where characters wallow in mud and excrement is so last decade. Very disappointing to hear that's what the editors thought was ideal for Conan.

One can update/edit their reviews.

Thx, very interesting. I was surprised to learn that El Borak was Howard's best selling character after Conan these days. I would have thought it was Solomon Kane.

I agree with you that more background about things would have been an improvement. The "scream" made me raise eyebrows as well. I suppose Conan's initial encounters with cow saliva and excrement just made too much of a first impression to me. The following chapters were better. A three star yarn seems about right.

I think Conan was Conan, which is most important part, and Jones’ style is unique so that was new. Yes overall short, quick read, I’d like more background on the monster, too, but thought the fight was well done. I think one note that pulled me out of story was I think I saw Conan ruminate about something “… in all of Hyperborea.” Shouldn’t it be “Hyboria?” Anyway I liked it, $2 is fair price, and I intend to support as much as I can hoping that leads to a print edition.

It should only be Hyperborea if the story is set there or referencing there. "Hyboria" is a term that Howard never, ever used.
