Spent the last three weeks playing Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, damn good game.
Burned out a bit but I enjoyed it. Tons of side content that I eventually skipped to experience the main story.
I might go back and do the side stuff later but I'm perfectly satisfied with the experience as is now.
I don't play a lot of games anymore so I'm not sure what the next one I dive into will be.

Guy wanna post your top favorites off the top of your heads? Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (Complete) The gold standard for my tastes. TBS, that is now deeply retro but does more than hold up. Almost flawless balance among the factions and tremendous music. I hardly ever play against another human but has a thriving community after all these years with tournaments and fan-made updates that may as well be professional. I generate XL random maps select my starting town depending on what theme I am feeling and just go...
Skyrim
While not perfect, for the circles I travel in the best single-player experience RPG that I could find. Playing survival mode forces you to weigh every decision and prepare accordingly. You can literally role-play in this game. Love the setting without mods but have learned to enhance the environment with a small selection of mods. A game I will always go back to and likely spend quite a bit of time playing, prowling around into every nook and cranny during my retirement years.
Game of recent years that I am not sure where would fit into a "top ten..."
Slay the Spire
Darkest Dungeon (I think plenty on this board would dig this game)
Darkest Dungeon looks like just the type of game I'd be interested in. I looked it up and it's 85% off on steam right now! I see there is a playstation port available as well. I'll probably buy it once I get home from work today. And Skyrim is an absolute classic! I think listing top favorites is a good idea!

One of my first memories of PC gaming was playing Shadow Warrior (1997) on a Windows 98 Desktop. One of the early build engine games that had a ton of playable levels, lots of weapons, crazy inventories, violence, gore and secret maps. All the good stuff you'd expect from a 90s first person shooter. I replayed it a couple years ago and the nostalgia hit hard with this one. Easily one of my favorites!
Here's a pretty solid review of the game:
There are many ports available online that can run the game on modern machines. The storyline is pretty basic with more of the focus being on the gameplay.
There was a hard reboot of the game in 2013 which was significantly more "Story-heavy" than the original and quite possibly my favorite first person shooter of all time! There were 2 sequels of the reboot that aren't as good in my opinion but they still have a loyal fanbase. Here's a trailer of the 2013 reboot:
and here's a review as well:

(if you have an imagination), IMO it's a perfect "blank canvas" that allows you to roleplay pretty much any type of fantasy character you want to create. And with the optional mods, you can really tailor the world to a specific play through. And, the game world is beautiful, even after playing for over a decade, there are still times I just walk my character around, not really doing anything, just taking in the scenery. (Another) "And".....after a decade I still find areas on the map and/or dungeons that I have never visited.

Another one that came to mind immediately when I watched some gameplay of "Asghan" was "Severance: Blade of Darkness". Again, I haven't actually played this one, although I might get around to it. This one has very obvious S&S inspirations; one of the playable characters is a clonenan.
I beat Blade Of Darkness for the first time this year after first trying it like two decades ago... it was always a tough game. I saw a port of it was on Switch, and it's weird how the Switch gets some old school PC ports like Jedi Outcast. They're generally good although BOD had some issues with characters moving when cut=scenes came on. pitsofmoria.wordpress.com/2023/08/22/severance-blade-of-darkness-nintendo-switch-review/I wrote a review of the game if anyone is interested but the short of it is I really enjoyed it. It's one of those games I'd rate as a 7/10 or 8/10 to others but to me, it's probably a 10 as it's a certain type of game you can't get anywhere else. The frustration involved would stop a lot of people enjoying it I think but I loved it. I especially liked playing something reminiscent of Souls games, but without any real grinding. The combat is really fun although you can breeze through if you properly learn the moves you unlock.

I've turned about five of my coworkers on to a poker-like deck building game called Balatro. Can't recommend it enough.
