It is not an organisation -- it is a scholarship that you can apply for to go to study manuscripts etc. by CAS and the others at the Bancroft Library for up to a month. The money should finance your stay, travel expenses, etc. I suppose that the one for Howard will be organised in the same way. It is funded by the Aeroflex Foundation, who already financed an S. T. Joshi Fellowship for Lovecraft Studies at Brown University.

Would it have to be someone enrolled in a program of graduate or postgraduate study at a university? (If it is so restricted, that would seem to be a bit ironic, considering that REH himself was tragically unable to pursue a program of study in the liberal arts.) Valeria Spirit

Valeria Spirit The DSF Fellowship is supposed to "support qualified researchers regardless of academic degree" (Hippocampus Press posted a description, but only as an image); I assume the same would apply for the forthcoming REH fellowship.

Hi, Ningauble - Glad to hear it! An old friend of mine, David J. Skal (author of Hollywood Gothic and The Monster Show, among many others) is an excellent writer and contributor in the field of Dracula, vampire, folklore and film studies and to the best of my knowledge has no degree after his high school diploma. He has even served as a scholar-in-residence at either the University of British Columbia or Victoria (one of the major universities in British Columbia), which shows that his scholarship is recognized by members of the academic community. I guess that aspects of pop culture like vampires, Conan, etc. are probably more likely to attract aficionados who don't necessarily fall into the usual academic mainstream but who may be worthy nonetheless. BTW, is DSF involved with the REH fellowship, or is that just Hippocampus? My guess is that the DSF Fellowship is just named in honour of Donald, same as the S. T. Joshi Fellowship at Brown was named in honour of S. T. It'll be interesting to see whose name will be on the Ransom Center one (maybe REH himself, maybe someone who has done much in REH studies). I'm just speculating so far.
