Do we know the black actors are Targaryens? It's Corlys Velaryon, I don't believe their house was around during GoT, or mentioned briefly at best. They're closely tied to the Targaryens, but a different house.

They're closely tied to the Targaryens, but a different house. House Velaryon is mentioned in the novels. A Velaryon bastard whose last name is Waters tricked Cersei into giving him a ton of ships and he became a pirate. Both Velaryon and Targaryens are from Valyria... we don't know a lot about it but I'm assuming GRRM gave the okay for the casting but who knows.

Do we know the black actors are Targaryens? They are Targaryens and Velaryons, their allies and relatives (through lot of intermarriages between the two families) and their children.
Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra Targaryen
Bethany Antonia as Lady Baela Targaryen
Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon
Phoebe Campbell as Lady Rhaena Targaryen
Will Johnson as Ser Vaemond Velaryon
Due to the Valyrian origin, both families are white. In the books Targaryens and Velaryons, as ethnic Valyrians, have been described as pale-skinned.
Even their children from mixed marriages can't be black.
I suppose that in the show they are going to try to explain black skin of Corlys Velaryon due to his father marriage with some woman from Summer islands. There is nothing like that in the books, but surely they are going to imagine something like that to justify these idiocy.

Haha! All identity-politics aside, this looks pretty comical to me. Some of these black actors that have been inserted in traditional white roles have got to be rolling their eyes off-stage.

The Targaryens are essentially more human looking Melniboneans. The book seems to be fairly clear about what the Velaryons look like as well, but...it's their show.

Super Huge spoilers for the books (so far) and TV show, but I thought this was pretty cool. It's a Tower of Joy fan film that is more faithful to the dream/flashback scene in A Game of Thrones. It looks like the fan film was released before HBO did their take.
Compare it to the book:
Compare it to the TV show:
Obviously the tv show has better production values, fight scenes, etc... but it's great hearing GRRM's dialogue from that scene come to life. I was disappointed how they handled this scene on the TV show. It should have been three members of the Kingsguard at the tower, and Ser Arthur Dayne should have have dual-wielded. And they should have kept all the freaking dialogue.

Now that looks promising! I'll definitely watch it. Yeah, at this point, it seems most people don't care if there's a new book or not. It's been too long. I used to be eager for him to release it, but I barely even think about it anymore.

I think Winds of Winter would still get some kind of reaction, but it's so long past the time it should've been out.
If George hasn't completely finished it yet, he should probably have this one end with the death of Daenerys, then make Dream of Spring a normal size book of 300 or so pages, dealing with the last part of that final episode and maybe take it a little past that.
As far as the Jon Snow series, they should do the same type of thing they're doing for the prequels: dig into all these old stories George talked about or hinted at and deal with those. This would be a little different since it would be Jon & the Night Watch following up on them, but it'll at least anchor them in Westeros lore.

And once again.... Condal tells EW on the set of House of the Dragon in December. "It was very important for Miguel and I to create a show that was not another bunch of white people on the screen, just to put it very bluntly."ew.com/tv/house-of-the-dragon-house-velaryon-race-change-explained/So that's the reasoning, hey? Nothing artistic. Nothing creative or any connection with source material. That. White people = bad. This show, from the get go should be considered toxic, maggot-infested shit, unworthy of being categorized as anything remotely related to inspirational. Don't watch it. Don't give this, LOTR or anything else like it the time of day. Don't validate their anti-white racism, unless you want more. Pasty little bastard Ryan Condal and the rest of the "creators" can go F themselves.

Ant that is a guy who was supposed to write the script for the Conan TV series for Amazon. Now I'm even more happy that that project failed.

Again, why do they insist on going down this route? Just say you wanted to do something different and leave it there. It’s like they can’t seem to help themselves. To paraphrase Michael Jordan, white people watch TV too.
