If the series is anything like the comics, it'll be excellent.

I really like Five Ghosts, written by Frank J. Barbiere, with art from Chris Mooneyham. These comics have a great pulpy feel. I think Barbiere/Mooneyham would make a great team for the Conan comics.

Has anyone read 'Heros the Spartan' by Frank Bellamy? Some beautiful artwork by Bellamy. In the 1960's, Heros was presented as a centre double-page strip in the British comic Eagle.

Yes it is, I have volumes 4-5 ordered already. "Prolapse!" Also, looking at my comic shelf, I'd recommend the Punisher Max runs by Garth Ennis and Jason Aaron, Alias by Brian Michael Bendis, and for those with more of a taste for European comics, Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Incal and The Metabarons.

The bowel disruptor, yes. Man, I need to get out my old volumes of Transmet and read em again... Yeah, Punisher Max was also excellent. Pretty much anything written by Ennis is worth reading: Preacher, Punisher Max, Fury Max (Nick Fury), The Boys, etc

Preview of 4001 A.D.: War Mother’ by Fred Van Lente and Tomas Giorello
For anyone out there who wants to catch up with what Fred Van Lente and Tomas Giorello are working on these days. There's also a Cary Nord variant cover! Valiant’s press release: In the 41st century, much of the planet has been reduced to a barren wasteland. New Japan orbits the Earth as a floating oasis that towers over the ashes of the old world. The survivors of this desolate new age, robbed of the planet’s once-lush natural resources, must endure great hardships to survive. Amidst the devastation, one outpost of scientific knowledge has thrived by adhering to a strict code of isolation. But even the denizens of this walled city must venture out into the wasteland to gather supplies from the remnants of what was. This task is designated to one and one alone: War Mother. But all is not peaceful, even in New Japan. When the space-faring empire begins jettisoning city-sized sectors to Earth during the onset of a civil war, War Mother is called upon with a new mission: mega-salvage! Armed with a newly born sentient sniper rifle, War Mother is a one-woman army bent on sacking the crash-landed sector’s technology-laden debris for anything of value to her tribe. But, as calm turns to chaos, Sector 8146 will reveal a telling secret about Earth’s true order that will collide War Mother against her community, her code, and her calling…and bring destruction down upon one of humanity’s last surviving outposts of order. Some of Giorello's pencils for the first issue, to be released on the 3rd of August. here's a link to preview comicsalliance.com/4001-ad-war-mother-van-lente-giorello-preview/

4001 A. D War Mother #1 looks pretty cool, indeed. Here's a preview from the Valiant website that has some color. - valiantuniverse.com/2016/07/13/first-look-4001-a-d-war-mother-1-a-major-new-hero-enters-the-fray-in-august/The only thing I don't like is that the copy indicates Giorello is a Valiant Exclusive artist, but let's hope that deal isn't long, long term. Ideally, him and Truman still have some Conan to do. In a perfect world. Us Conan fans needs to go for the Conan veteran trifecta and grab the Carey Nord cover. That way it's Nord, Giorello, and Van Lente on one book.

I heartily second this recommendation. Five Ghosts is one of my favorite books to come out in the last 5 years. I will also second The Sixth Gun, which someone else recommended. Depending on what your tastes are, I might also recommend... Fatale by Ed Bruabaker and Sean Phillips from Image Comics-think Lovecraft meets a 1950s noir film Lazarus by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark from Image Comics-post apocalyptic drama Velvet by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting from Image-espionage in the Bond style, but what is Miss Moneypenny were the action hero... The Six Voyages of Lone Sloane and Lone Sloane Delirius by Philippe Druillet republished by Titan Books (translated into English from the French)... Elric: The Ruby Throne and Elric Stormbringer new adaptations from Titan Books, translated into English, the creators worked closely on these with Moorcock himself... The Black Beetle No Way Out by Francesco Francavilla from Dark Horse Comics... just a few to ponder... -M Yeah, Five Ghosts was excellent. At the time it was as close as you could get to reading 'Queen of the Black Coast' in comics form - Five Ghosts was released the same time as Brian Wood's CTB. Some good recommendation there mrp. Been thinking about picking up Lazarus and Fatale for ages, maybe I will soon. Thanks.
