I really like Val Mayerik's cover for SSOC 22. It shoulda been the direct market cover for the 2nd SSOC omnibus.

...a little more. Defining shapes and shadows Adding the sepia I like adding color w/pencil crayons. You can smudge it, erase it, dilute it w water, get some really subtle tones, and get sharp lines when you need them.

I always associate Cary Nord with some of the Conan stuff from Darkhorse that I read in the past.

Great painting of Conan by Andrew Robinson. Much better than his covers for the King Conan:The Phoenix on the Sword series at Dark Horse.

Conan the Cimmerian Oil painting by Bernie Wrightson 1976 Description from Comicartfans: 20x25in Bernie Wrightson Oil painting from the Studio. Classic piece done for Christopher Ivy Enterprises in 1976. Wrightson did not do all that many Oil paintings and I always felt they were something special. Piece is quite big and hard to see some of the more subtle details. Conan has big blue eyes in this painting and from this pic you can not even tell but lots of good looking calamari here.

A barbarian. Rapidograph and India ink. 8.5 x 11. 1969
I think this drawing was done during the 45 seconds I was seriously influenced by Frank Frazetta. :-) This was an ad that ran in a fanzine somewhere. No idea where anymore. It was promoting the idea of a World SF Convention in Washington DC in 1971. That didn't happen, but the WorldCon was held in DC in 1974.
One of my favorite things about this drawing is that after I finished it, I realized it looked a lot like 'Conan' was lifting up the same trapdoor he's standing on. Strong guy. I think I added the toe of his left foot as an afterthought. Not the most effective solution, but it was an early lesson in planning my drawings out a little more carefully early on.
Another big thanks to the REH comics facebook page
