I realized during my morning commute to work today, that I while I have always known that I mostly watched Xena: Warrior Princess for the girls and not the story, it was never really for Xena or Gabrielle. In fact, I must confess that I don't find Lucy Lawless all that attractive- not in Xena or Spartacus. Gabrielle had her moments with her mid-riff and all, but you know, it was always about Calisto. I liked Lucy Lawless, especially in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Recently watched all the 70's/80's Buck Rogers episodes again, and after some deliberation have come to the conclusion that Pamela Hensley was better than Erin Gray, I mean not only was Princess Ardala hot, but also funny and bad, and you have to like the bad girls. Her not being in Season 2 was just plain wrong. I always liked Pamela Hensley, it was Erin Grey I had to develop an appreciation for. Rewatching the series on MeTV a few years back…it developed :-) Season 2 is a mess, when will they learn if you change practically EVERYTHING about a show, it’s not going to work on the long run?

They whole Star Trek across the stars theme for season 2 just wasn't Buck Rogers for me, having said that, some of the episodes did stand out, and Hawk was a good edition, but have no idea what they were thinking when they added that geriatric Dr Goodfellow with his borderline alzheimers and that boorish robot Crichton to the line up. They should have kept Buck and Wilma on Earth, but with the introduction of Hawk to the original team that comprised of Dr Huer and Dr Theopolis, and especially Princess Ardala, her interactions with her sidekick Kane had a stand up comedy routine to it in some ways, and her schemes to conquer Earth ( and Buck ) was hilarious.

Started streaming Highlander: the Series and Star Trek DS9 before bed. I forgot how good Highlander is and am enjoying DS9 overall but it's not as bingeable as Highlander is.
I may consult a DS9 guide to see what episodes must be watched and what can be skipped.

I finally caught up with Stranger Things and actually enjoyed it a good deal (I tend to be skeptical of modern TV shows that get hyped up by everyone at the office). It got me in the mood to read some 80s horror novels. Such as? I am always on the lookout for good stuff from that decade. I started watching Venture Bros. again, hoping that I will complete the series and the concluding movie comes out soon after.

Who still has a HBO subscriptions b/c they never cancelled after Game of Thrones, then watched the new prequel and didn't cancel again?
Anyway, I'm enjoying the Perry Mason prequel (season 2 is coming out now, 1X episode a week). It's a good legal/police procedural, but it seems like they've really nailed the early 30's corrupt LA setting in a way that I think Robert E. Howard would've appreciated. Everybody's got a side hustle going, corruption is pretty rife and everybody's willing to backstab somebody to get what they want. Plus the buildings/offices/costumes etc are really evocative and seem (to my untrained eye at least) to be really on point.
My smallest complaint... sometimes the trumpet's wail kind of breaks out of soundtrack to be almost a distraction... but even then, it's period appropriate!
Gets my vote for the best '30's noir on TV right now (but I'll take other suggestions, too!)

Thought about trying Perry Mason at some point, just don't have a lot of extra time right now. Maybe in a few months. HBO did a killer Phillip Marlowe series with Powers Boothe in the early 80s but it was just 6 episodes. They brought it back a few years later but didn't recapture the magic.

We don't get HBO as a separate service , the shows show up on our Sky package and really enjoyed the first series of Perry Mason and looking forward to the next. As a kid I well remember the original show!

For any Stargate fans Jennifer Salke has apparently recently greenlit a new Stargate movie for Amazon, to be potentially followed up by a new series. Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping seem to be involved but no mention of any other cast as yet.
The only red flag for me is the way Amazon have ghosted Brad Wright whose concepts and sci fi geek knowledge was one of the highlights of the original series. Smacks of the way they ghosted Peter Jackson for Rings of Power and doesn't bode well.

For any Firefly fans Disney (who bought Fox and therefore now unfortunately have the rights to Firefly) have been seriously looking into rebooting Firefly. They are impressed that it's one of their properties that frequently scores very highly in most loved franchise lists but are being ultra cautious about how the fans will potentially react. Seems like a strong chance they want as many of the original cast back as possible especially Nathan Fillion as Malcolm Reynolds.

The scitrek channel thought he was getting tired with the heavy schedule for the Rookie and would probably segue out it for Firefly if Disney go ahead. His source also said Disney aren't too keen for Joss Whedon to be involved, But Nathan said on the Joe Rogan show some time ago that it wouldn't work without Joss.
