One day King Conan, brooding on his throne, will be ambushed by a shadowy humped figure and he will know that his past transgressions against camelkind have returned to haunt him.

I used to have the Vestron video VHS tape of this. Joe Spinell is a regular in the cast of my fictional imaginings.

The clarinet priests must be really gnarly.
Going back to the camels, Cyrus the Great of Persia is supposed to have defeated the Lydians by employing camels as cavalry mounts during the battle of Thymbra in 547 BC. Apparently the Lydians' horses were so freaked out by the smell and appearance of the camels that they panicked and Cyrus won the day.
As to how true that is, who really knows. That's ancient history for you.

Kaligg-Ma Interlude
**************
Transcript of a tape recording of paranormal researcher Sullivan Norton's interview with medium Franklin Gerrold Deeks. The interview was witnessed by 12 other individuals, all members of a local "Paranormal Study Group" which met at Norton's place of business, "Burning Path Occult Bookstore" located in Arkham, Massachusetts.
Notes: Franklin Gerrold Deeks is a Caucasian male, 43 years of age. He worked as an employee of the City of Kingsport Massachusetts Sanitation Department until he suffered head injury on the job at the age of 39. Deeks was in a coma for 21 days after the accident, on the 22nd day he woke at dawn and left the hospital returning to his home to announce to his wife that he was the reincarnation of Oret Kasorra a sorcerer who dwelt on the ice free Antarctic continent roughly 250,000 years ago. Deeks was placed under psychiatric observation and later released when his normal personality returned. Since that time Deeks has been able to "channel" the entity and holds seminars offering advice to various persons and organizations with occult and paranormal interests.
****************
Date: October 14 1981
Time: 11:14 pm
F.G. Deeks had been staring at a burning candle for a total of 4 minutes when his eyes rolled upwards leaving only the whites exposed and he experienced a brief convulsion.
Norton: Mr. Deeks, or are we speaking to Oret Kasorra?
Deeks: I am Oret Kasorra, Master of the Living Flame of Narallu.
Norton: Excellent, Master Oret I would like to ask some questions concerning your homeland.
Kasorra: Speak.
Norton: How was it Antarctica was free of ice 200,000 years ago when our science tells us it has been buried under glaciers for millions of years?
Kasorra: Your science is faulty, the earth has shifted its axis many times and Serru, the land you call Antarctica, has often occupied the area of the equator during these cycles and the ice melted for millennia. Many human civilizations have risen and fallen during these cycles going back to age of the great reptiles and the proto-men who still dwell deep under the earth.
At the time of my corporeal existence Serru was cloven as two large islands covered with what you would call a tropical jungle. In this first great age of Serru many cities arose in these jungles, some ruled by warrior kings, some by sorcerers, and some by things not human. There was continual war and in time forces were unleashed that altered the landscape again, the sea retreated leaving a vast desert in the central area of Serru and the cities of this area fell to ruin. The jungles persisted in the coastal regions and many of the cities survived, war continued although never again to the degree of the first age and these cities thrived until the return of the ice thousands of years later.
Norton: You seem to know a great deal considering you were already dead by the time of these events.
Kasorra: Death is not the end for a sorcerer of my power. My consciousness persists in a river of existence that flows alongside the material world. I am fully aware, I observe, remember, and reason with senses similar to your own, somewhat expanded and also restricted in some ways.
Norton: Interesting, are there others like you in this alternate "river of existence" you speak of?
Kasorra: Yes, many sorcerers of various epochs---along with other things.
(unintelligible sounds of multiple people talking softly. Norton is heard to say "I'm not going to ask him about that" in a somewhat angry tone.)
Norton: I would like to ask you about your reference to being "Master of the Living Flame of Narallu", is that a title or rank?
Kasorra: It is an acknowledgement of attainment in the control of that entity.
Norton: Can you speak of Narallu?
Kasorra: Narallu is entity of energy, it is present in all flame and can be brought forth by certain rites. Once it is brought forth it can be useful for many purposes, it can soften and shape stone or metal, many palaces and cities were constructed by the use of Narallu, also many tunnels deep into the earth. Narallu may also be used a weapon, although the results can be catastrophic except in the hands of the greatest adepts for the nature of Narallu is rage and when unleashed it desires to consume all.
Norton: Is Narallu an aspect of Azat--(the tape inexplicably garbles this word and then resumes recording normally).
Kasorra: Perhaps but this is not to be spoken of.
Norton: Can you conjure a brief manifestation of Narallu in your present existence?
Kasorra: No, the brain fibers of Deeks are untrained and too coarse to direct occult energies. However I sense that you have studied and achieved some small degree of attainment in sorcery, perhaps you might intone the incantations as I speak them through Deeks?
Norton: I would be honored to try.
Kasorra: Innoch ara Narallu (continued chanting in unrecognizable language)
Norton: (imitating the chant, having difficulty keeping up and in pronunciation)
voices of unknown observers, much is unintelligible background chatter but a few excited exclamations can be clearly heard:
Look at the candle!
It's turning blue!
Beautiful!
(Eye witnesses state that at this point the candle flame had turned a deep blue in color and suddenly grew in size to approximately 7 feet tall. Several onlookers claimed they felt intense heat "in their bones" although apparently the ambient temperature remained 70 degrees in the room.)
Norton: (Ceases the chant) An incredible demonstration ! Thank you Kasorra, let us conclude this session.
(Kasorra continues chanting for 2 minutes despite Norton's continued calls to end the session. The blue flame has become very intense and witnesses stated it felt like it was over "100 degrees" in the room.)
Norton: Kasorra! In the name of the Voor I demand you release your host and return to your proper sphere!
(Kasorra continues the chant)
(Eye witnesses state that at this point the flame "reared like a cobra" and struck Deeks enveloping his body in blue fire. The flaming body of Deeks rose from the chair and approached Norton, who appeared to appeared to be frozen in fear. Deeks placed his flaming hand over the face of Sullivan Norton causing him to scream in agony and fall to the floor.)
Kasorra: Step aside or suffer the same fate.
(Apparently at this point the observers gave Deeks a wide berth and he walked out of the book store into the street.)
Police reports regarding the incident state that Sullivan Norton was killed by exposure to an intense heat which was somehow projected through his eye sockets causing fatal brain damage ("boiled brain" as described by the coroner). The only mark on his body was the imprint of a hand melted into the skin of his face. Human bones were found in the street outside the Burning Path Occult Bookstore. The bones were "burnt and blackened" and most were shattered "as if dropped from a height". A nearby vagrant stated to the police that he had seen a "bird made of blue fire flying into the sky, with burning skeleton bones falling out of it". The man was a well known alcoholic and his statement was given little credit. The investigation remains open.

See kids, this is why you don't get involved with people possessed by 250000 year old antediluvian sorcerers. It never ends well. Sure they're great at parties but eventually it's just screaming and burnt flesh and weird stains you can't get out of the carpet that talk to you in your dreams in your dead grandma's voice.
Pain in the ass.

Nice! One wonders what depraved individuals from past eons lurk unseen at our elbow. Probably no worse than the ones who lurk at our forearms.
