So I finally sat down last night to watch Furious and wasn't disappointed in the least. This was an excellent historical action flick and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. The battle scenes were bloody and well choreographed and the main character carried himself as the hero of legend quite well, his dual-wielding ability is on par with the actors on the Spartacus Starz series. This was a really good showing for Russian cinema. I even got a little s&s vibes from the bear... to me he seemed to personify mother Russia itself, maybe the paganic Russia of the past. The one thing that has me scratching my head is the main character having temporary amnesia when he wakes up due to the childhood trauma. I didn't mind it and thought it was a unique aspect to his character, but it didn't seem to slow him down any in life, it didn't cause any problems during the movie, and it really didn't help him either. I just thought it was an odd choice, but like I said it didn't detract from the movie at all, and I guess it did give him another dimension to his character. While on holiday break in a few weeks I plan to finally watch Viking on Prime Video and I ordered the Duelist and that Wolfhound movie above. So far Russian Cinema is 2 for 2. FYI, it also appears the Golden Horde TV series mentioned on the last page is on Amazon Prime as well: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NQW2WGL?pf_rd_p=ab873d20-a0ca-439b-ac45-cd78f07a84d8&pf_rd_r=H7C7AYP4AH2EBQYJHTPMAlso, not historical fiction/fantasy or anything, but this Russian version of Rambo TV series kind of cool, too: www.amazon.com/Freedom/dp/B077ZMXVW4/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=viking+russian&qid=1576434306&s=movies-tv&sr=1-10

Watched this last night and it's one of the better movies I've seen in recent years. A bit of pulp, a bit of Alexandre Dumas, and even a bit of sorcery. Highly recommended, the best Russian film I've seen yet.

So if Conan the Barbarian 1982 and Willow had a baby, this would be it. I understand this is based off a Russian s&s series where the author translated a lot of English-based fantasy works into Russian and was heavily inspired by REH as well as Norse and Slavic mythology but the basic plot is closer to the 1982 Conan the Barbarian movie than anything else, right down to the opening scenes. The aesthetics and over-all look of the film is a lot like Willow, though. It's not bad, but not great either. This is fairly old at this point, from 2006, so it's nowhere near as polished as some other Russian films I've seen as of late, but it has some good qualities. It felt like an adventure movie, which is always nice, and the lead actor was pretty good. From what I hear the movie was successful enough that it spawned a prequel TV series called Young Wolfhound.

Found the movie at youtube, thankfully with subs. Looks like fun WOLFHOUND (2006)

Durign the past months I have been watching some old Soviet/Russians films, they are a blast and is a shame that they are no more widely available.

You can find most of those fantasy movies from SSSR era on the Youtube with English subtitles: Original Viy (remastered version) is available on DVD by Severin films: Russians made a remake 7 years ago but it's a total crap-a big budget Americanized version of the original Russian story with lot of CGI and minimum practical effects and bad copy of Tim Barton's horror movies.

Land of Legends (: Сердце Пармы, 'Heart of Parma') is an upcoming Russian historical epic movie directed by Anton Megerdichev. It is an adaptation of the historical novel Heart of Parma (Сердце Пармы,) written by Aleksei Ivanov and published in 2003. The book is based on the events of the 15th century and talks about the conquest of by Great Perm by Moscow.
The history of the confrontation between two worlds: the Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Ural Parma, the ancient Perm lands inhabited by pagans. Here heroes and ghosts, princes and shamans, Voguls and Muscovites will clash. At the center of the conflict of civilizations is the fate of the Russian prince Mikhail, who fell in love with the young Tiche, a witch-lamia capable of taking on the form of a lynx. Passion for the pagan and fidelity to forbidden love, a campaign against the Voguls, bloody battles and a short peace, the battle between Muscovy and Parma, the hero will face trials in which it is not so terrible to part with life as to commit treason.

Looks epic. That's what I like about the Russians, when they include Russian and Mongol types it all feels placed in the right way. So different to stuff we get with Hollywood/Netflix.

This looks great. I noticed Elena Erbakova portrays the shaman/witch Tiche in the movie - kinda reminds me of the witch in CtB 1982. She is of Mongolian Buryat descent, from way out there near Irkutsk, north of Mongolia in Siberia, Russia. She also learned the the Uralic language of the Mansi saying: I learned to ride and mastered the Mansi language. It was important for director Anton Megerdichev that this beautiful language sounds in the film. The picture only benefited from this, because it shows the life of different peoples, and thanks to the Mansi language, the characters look more natural. We taught Mansi online, we had excellent consultants who later came to the site. I don’t want to brag, but this language was not very difficult for me, because it is similar to the Buryat language.
