The language thing sounds like something Mel Gibson would do.

Recently found out about an Italian film that would be of some interest here. It's The First King, about Romulus and Remus. All the dialogue is in Old Latin, the language of the time. Haven't seen it myself, but it certainly looks cool.
I watched this last month on Bluray, it's solid. The budget isn't insane but it's a good-looking movie.

Thank you for the heads up Almuric. I have just ordered it as it looks alright. Cheers.

This was a pretty good movie I watched a few nights back on PlutoTV (it's a streaming service like Netflix, but it's free, the downside is you have commercials in the middle of the movies and tv shows. It's called Tracker and it takes place following the Boer War, but it's set in New Zealand. The main character is a Boer of a notorious reputation who arrives in New Zealand. He gets off the boat and by nightfall he's asked to put his tracking skills to use to assist the British Army in tracking down a murder suspect. That very evening a Maori sailor, who has just returned home, is accused of murdering a member of the British Army, but he's innocent. I really enjoyed this and I think fans of H. Rider Haggard and pulp fiction would like it as well.

Godzilla vs. Kong looks totally insane, absurd and unbelievable, and I'm totally on board with it:

Latest trailer for Zack Snyder's Justice League. I won't lie, there was a time I thought we might never get this. Glad to be wrong.
In related news, Snyder has announced he's working on a King Arthur movie. Not a big surprise when you recall that Boorman's Excalibur is one of his favourite movies and he's included some Arthurian motifs in his DCEU films. The high-profile failures of the last two big-budget cinematic Arthur movies could be a stumbling-block for the studio, though. We'll see.

I just rewatched the 1963 epic Kings of the Sun on Amazon Prime for the first time in 25 years. George Chakiris plays the leader of a tribe of Mayans who flee from Chichen Itza from a violent rival tribe with better weapons. They head across the Gulf of Mexico and land on the shores of what would become Texas, where they run across an Indian tribe led by chief Yul Brynner. It's interesting if a little silly at times (Richard Basehart and Barry Morse are in really goofy outfits and Brad Dexter won't take his odd headpiece off the entire film). It investigates a period not much covered in cinema, pre-Columbus America. As I was watching it, I thought it was the type of story Howard might have done while he was in his heavy Texas history mode.
The copy of the film itself is a bit strange. I just got a new 65 inch 4k TV with sound bar. There are some parts of the film that look like they were shot on a 4k camera. There are other parts that look like the copy I saw the only other time it was on TV, back in 1995 when KYW in Philadelphia was still an NBC affiliate. There's also a really bad gash in the negative in the last minute of the film that you can clearly see! Could use a nice restoration.

“The film reimagines the iconic character as Oscar de la Vega, a young, undocumented hacker known as ‘z0rr0’,” reveals Deadline. And it looks as though he’s going to use his skills to stick it to the man."
No. No. No. This is the worst idea since someone thought James Patterson's ghost-writer would be a good choice to reboot the Shadow. I can guarantee you, someone pitched a movie about a Hispanic hacker uncovering a conspiracy. Someone at the studio liked it, but because only superhero movies can be made now, they decided to change it into this because Zorro is the only Hispanic superhero they had the rights to. Also, gotta laugh at the stereotyping of making a Hispanic character an illegal immigrant.

Not sure if there are any chess players on the forum or if anybody has any interest in Bobby Fischer, but I finally got around to watching "Pawn Sacrifice." Not sure what I thought of it. I read "Endgame," Fischer's autobiography and have watched Fischer's interviews with Carson and Cavett's shows (which were both really interesting and different in the context of how their interviews usually go). Also, as an avid chess player, I have studied his games, including his famous 6th game vs. Spassky. Toby, while delivering a decent performance, to me, did not capture Bobby very well at all. Fischer was a tall, imposing man and had a natural intimidation about him. More so than any other grandmaster than I can think of. On a physical level alone, I would rather sit across Magnus Carlson than Bobby Fischer. I think after all this I am landing with the opinion that Fischer's modern depiction casts him in a more crazy/villainous way than he deserves. I think he understood too much about how the world works, and after the US government abused him, it all but confirmed his opinions and sent him into both a physical and mental exile. And yeah, he did appear an unkept crazy homeless guy toward the end, but that's what you would look like after all that.

I went to see Everything Everywhere All at Once last weekend, and it's probably the most pure fun I've had at the movies so far this year. Action, humor, and tons of heart.

The new Doctor Strange was pretty fun, and reading up about some behind the scenes stuff reminded me of how Shuma-Gorath's name came from Howard, which I had completely forgotten.

I am hoping one of you can help identify a movie for me. I saw a clip from it that had no sound that makes it even harder.
I would put the date at late 70s or early 80s, but could be wrong. I got the feeling that it was a European movie because I would have recognized it if it was from the US. Anyway, main character is like a James Bond guy punching and kicking a generic brand of bad guys and it was way over the top slap stick, making this a comedy for sure. A bunch of bad guys come running down a wide staircase and MC guns them all down in slow motion as they flail about dramatically. Meanwhile there is a sidekick (?) burly, breaded Bluto looking guy also punching guys out with ease, impervious to their offense. There is a part where for some reason one of the bad guys come sup wearing boxing gloves and Bluto yanks them off and hits the bag guy with them while he is just holding them, which makes no sense but is funny. Scene is strangely colorful with Austin Powers vibe.
Any guesses? Looked funny as hell.
