it seems to be agreed that many of the latter star wars involved a tonnage of suckage

I still like RotJ, even though The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: A New Hope are the best of the bunch. Funny thing is that I had a better opinion of RotJ in the 80’s, but I watched it from the perspective of a kid. Maybe that’s just it, it was made for a younger audience, so a wacky ending for Boba Fett and the teddy bear Ewoks didn’t phase me at that time, still thought it was cool overall. The best part was the Death Star assault and Luke confronting the Emperor and Vader in the throne room.

I never knew what possessed Lucas to create something like Jar Jar Binks. Thankfully they cut the idiotic and annoying Gungan’s part down in the next instalments of the prequel series of films. I think I didn’t mind Kathleen Kennedy taking the helm of Lucasfilm simply for the fact that George Lucas made a few irritating screw ups along the way. I like the portrayal of Rey, Finn and Poe, but my feelings about the latest movies are mixed. These days, I need something along the lines of Rogue One, my favourite to date. Of course, I will be watching Star Wars. Episode IX……..and all the scrutiny that will ultimately come along with it.

I watched RotJ a few months ago for the first time in years and I actually found that it holds up pretty well. Still the least of the trilogy but it's entertaining enough.
I do feel bad for JarJar because not only was his screen-time reduced but Lucas also made him cast the deciding vote to destroy the Republic. I mean, sure, brush the guy aside because he's a lame character but hanging something like that on him just seemed like mean-spirited overcompensation to me.
I can't bring myself to get interested in any new Star Wars movies. I've had so many chances to watch The Last Jedi and...I just can't bring myself to push play. I imagine it will be the same with Solo. I just don't care and I've got other stuff I'd rather spend a couple of hours doing.

Eh, saying something like "gone too far" or making other critical comments strikes me as pretty ordinary for a rough cut screening. That's the whole point of the rough cut - to see what mistakes were made and make plans to tighten up the editing and such. This is not to say, of course, that the prequels don't suck, because they do The funny part is the dude who made the Phantom Edit didn't have any problem cutting stuff, so it wasn't that far gone. I've always said there are a couple of scenes where he cut too much: the whole section where Darth Maul shows up as Qui Gon and Anakin are running to the ship is so abrupt, my neck gets hurt! There's a whole scene cut that only lasts a minute that would set all that up nicely, but no, let's leave in the Gungan stepping in poop and smelling passed gas.

I tried to think of the No 1 worst special edition change to Star Wars, and I always keep thinking it must be the Jedi Rocks.
First The original number for a refresher.
Here it is. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - Jedi Rock's

star wars is ok...I just recall so vividly though how star trek had a completely different theme to almost every episode...and much of it was writen by classic pulp fiction writers like Robert bloch...trek is sorta for the more mentally hip or whatever

It's not aged well and many of the themes were kinda crude. Wars is more timeless

That laugh at the end better not be “Meesa is a Sith Lord'. I don't think I could handle Jar Jar coming back.
