George Lucas said that he wanted to find every copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special and destroy it. I watched this as a kid, but there is no way I could sit through the whole thing now. My apologies to this forum for unleashing this on you, but this is the epitomy of boring. I think some nations wanted to use this to interrogate suspects accused of the worst crimes, but the UN has banned it because it would be just to cruel and inhumane. You will understand why after watching this. The Star Wars Holiday Special (Complete Movie) I think we'll survive. I posted it on this thread 6 months ago. The animated segment is still cool. It's amazing how much buzz it created for Boba Fett before "Empire" even came out. The animated segment was the best part, I remember liking that part the most, although I did not mind the rest of it back than. Spending time with the Chewbacca family now seemed like a real pain though, and I am now guilty of just skipping most of that, and going straight to the animation. I read somewhere that Boba Fett appeared in comics prior to Empire Strikes Back, but never read or knew about them at that time.

I for one think the Holiday Special is great. It's a nice time capsule of a time when Star Wars was fun and full of possibilities. Just like the pre- Empire Marvel SW's comics were off-model and completely Gonzo, but entertaining as hell. Well, you are not the only one. My brother was a toddler back when I watched it and he doesn't remember watching it my parents place, but now he saved it and by default I am watching the whole thing, says that only die hard Star Wars fans know about it, I can't get out of it now. I suppose in 78 Star Wars could have gone anywhere, and I still have some of those action figures stashed away in a draw back at my folks place. So now people on this forum and my family are saying it's maybe not so bad. Well, Jefferson Starship was also cool. There is that, and I am getting too involved in this thing about where the hell are Han and Chewie, and are they going to make it for Life Day........ Some forgiving moments that stand out, that's as far as I will go.

This trip down the Star Wars memory lane has me thinking of some of the animated series I used to watch back in the 80's. The ones that stand out for me are The Droids and The Ewoks.

This reminds me of something.
The Star Wars setting. I like to think that the story is set in our galaxy in a distant future time when humans have colonised the galaxy ?
However, the opening clearly states that
'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.....
So Luke, Rey, Han, Leia, Obi-Wan and Lando are aliens who look like humans, but are in no way connected to Earth, and I have read that Coruscant is the original home of the human species, or Star Wars human species.
Probably doesn't get any more complicated than that.

I'll dig up a link....

the OORT RAIDER is a great name for a si-fi Comet mining ship. [ but, the speculation about the 'oort cloud' is STILL just another space THEORY ] ==== disney is destroying the great original spirit of star wars fun, and has already demolished many of the main pillars of the mega-popular star wars legend? when the rights owners are effing idiots then the franchise core and future are doomed: the 'phantom death star' has won?

On second thought this may get a little complicated. Thanks Char Vell. List of references to Earth in Star Wars starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_references_to_Earth_in_Star_WarsI have to look at this in more detail later on. Robert J Sawyer's Alien Exodus concept is amazing. Thousands of humans from 25th century Earth fall through a 'cosmic whirpool' in a converted mining ship, and end up in a another galaxy billions of the years in the past. One of them also carries the name of Solo. They end up on the world they name Corellia, but are forced to leave it, and at some future time humans from Coruscant settle Corellia. Non canon, but interesting in that the Star Wars story still gets to be set in the past, and the explanation of humans is that they are the descendants of a colony of Earthlings who travelled through a hole in time and space.

I was actually just watching the Planets and Beyond episode about the Oort cloud on Science Channel last night, they sound pretty convinced.
Solo may be a tipping point: if it crashes after the Last Jedi reception, JJ & Kathleen may have to go back to the drawing board a bit. But if Opie Cunningham is able to pull it off, they may still think they're almost invincible.

I went over the list of references to Earth in Star Wars, the main continuity, and I have to say that any connection to Earth is superfluous or coincidental at best. starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_references_to_Earth_in_Star_Wars For instance, the list of references to Earth animals, no more than the fact that the Star Wars story was created on Earth, hence the Millennium Falcon, sounds cooler than calling it the Millennium Bathwa. I don’t think George Lucas would elaborate on it. Probably wouldn’t since he has sold the rights to Star Wars giving the new owners that kind of creative licence to do whatever they wanted to do with it. We are left with believing that a human like species evolved independently of us in some far away galaxy a long time ago, every variable would have to be exactly the same for the two species to evolve identically. Similar or the same conditions will still produce radically different designs. Notice that in the Star Wars universe there are no Earth animals even though there are humans who look exactly like our species. However, I see Star Wars more along the lines of a science fiction fantasy or Space Opera. Different to say Isaac Asimov’s Foundation and Robot series where the humans are descendants of various waves of colonists from Earth in the distant future. Star Wars is a fantasy story in space that happens to have science fiction elements. The various aliens are stand ins for orcs, goblins and other monsters, stock fantasy worlds, magic and wizards in the form of the Force and Jedi, and it works. Star Wars is an original and well imagined fantasy world in this genre. Probably no different to puzzling over the existence of humans in the Game of Thrones world or one of those other fantasy worlds set on a different planet. Making the main heroes and villains human in appearance ( or almost human looking ) makes it easier to relate to as a viewer.

Star Wars now takes itself to seriously, that wasnt what made it so popular. The original Star Trek series was written in part by fans of or actual pulp fiction giants like Robert Bloch...the remakes and all the stuff that came later from both franchises just cant compete with the original shows...IMO that new Krypton show looks like it might have some potential

With all this going on, I'm a little surprised the kid with the broom at the end of Last Jedi was a boy!

If someone brought Caro with them to a BBQ at my house, they would not be invited back.
