I wasn't quite sure where to put this. This thread seems best: archive.org/details/behemothlegend00mathrichCornelius Mathews' Behemoth: A Legend (1839) is about ancient Mound Builders fighting a colossal mammoth with bison-drawn war-wagons! A little-known landmark in American fantasy/sci-fi.

I haven't read these, but what about Jane Auel's "Clan of the Cave Bear" series? I think there are a half dozen or so books and a movie that went with this. (Oh, and for movies what about "One Million Years BC" with Raquel Welch?) EDIT: Epic fail at copying an image.

This anthology looks interesting, albeit a little uneven. I'd like to get hold of it just for the George Sterling short story. One of the very few he ever wrote (he was primarily a poet and mentor to Clark Ashton Smith). www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?433072
