Jus picked up the Adventures of Dennis Dorgan and Iron Man paperbacks published by Zebra. Already read The Alleys of Singapore and half way through The Jade Monkey. By Crom and Tengri this stuff is great - I've been holding out for the Bison collection or even less likely the 4 volume set by the REH foundation for years. I finally givin to temptation and picked up the paperbacks and can tell that I'm gonna love this stuff, even more than REH's historical fiction! And that's saying sumfin. I just hope I don't have too much fermented mare's milk and lose this paperback that I carry around in my sky rocket (kumiz is outa season by the way, so I'm more likely drinkin' a cheap n' cheerful amount of whiskey). Good to see you finally gettin' your sea legs with the boxing yarns Hun. Even Mushy's dime novels have nothin' on these. Just wait 'till you read Destiny Gorilla.

I'll read the Zebra editions and I'll eventually hunt down the 4 volume set by the REH Foundation. Interesting that they restored the Dennis Dorgan stories back to the original Steve Costigan version - I did not know that. Thanks Elegos7 The only genuine Dennis Dorgan story is Alleys of Treachery. All the other stories were originally conceived and written as Steve Costigan yarns. Thanks Elegos7. I'm gonna read Alleys of Treachery (Mandarin Ruby) tomorrow.

I should be getting Robert E. Howard's Sailor Steve Costigan: The Complete Collection of Published Stories by Pulp-Lit Productions later this week. From what I have read in the Dennis Dorgan yarns this stuff is up there with Conan and the historical fiction yarns. Ideally, I'd like to stumble across the 4 volume set of Fists of Iron published one day by the REH Foundation.

I would like to know the list of stories, if anyone has this book. I have Fists of Iron, but I am curious to know. I wonder if Alleys of Darkness is included, since it was published with the Dorgan name. There were a bunch of very good Costigan stories that were never published. I suppose the point of using only the published ones is that they are in public domain. I also wonder what kind of annotations there are. I read a part of John’s comments on the Hour of the Dragon and it was interesting stuff.

I read a part of John’s comments on the Hour of the Dragon and it was interesting stuff. Just got a copy, till I can manage to find the Fists of Iron set. You can find the contents below. Yeah, Alleys of Darkness can be found in this volume. 1929-1932: Fight Stories and Action Stories magazine"The Pit of the Serpent" "The Bull Dog Breed" "Sailor's Grudge" "Fist and Fang" "Winner Take All" "Waterfront Fists" "Champ of the Forecastle" "Alleys of Peril" "The TNT Punch" "Texas Fists" "The Sign of the Snake" "The House of Peril" "Breed of Battle" "Circus Fists" "Dark Shanghai" "Vikings of the Gloves" "Night of Battle" 1934: Magic Carpet and Jack Dempsey's Fight Magazine"Alleys of Darkness" "The Slugger's Game" "General Ironfist" "Sluggers of the Beach" Unfortunately, no annotations in this volume beyond a couple of lines in italic informing the reader of where and when the yarn was originally published. I gotta be honest, I'm not overly impressed with the introduction by Finn D. John, sounds like he done a better job with the Conan collection. Hope that helps. Here's a link to Bill Thom's excellent Howardworks: www.howardworks.com/howard.htm

I realised today I had bought the audio book a few weeks ago. I listened to The Pit of the Serpent and I was very pleased with the interpretation. These stories are a great listen.
Thanks for the table of content. Audio books often don’t have these and it’s a pain to find the story you want. It’s great he included Alleys of Darkness (though it’s far from one of the best). I think this is a pretty solid contender for someone who doesn’t want to buy Fists of Iron 2 and 3. But the intros and notes in these books are excellent. I always enjoy Patrice Louinet’s detailed account of when, why and for which magazine each story was written.
