This has to be one of my favourite all time S&S film. It's pure fantasy so you can throw historical accuracy out the window, and the best part is that it has Jack Palance in it. Very few movies can rival this one in the 'So Bad, It's Good' category. And to think Jack Palance still had the Gor movies to look forward to...and THEN an Oscar!

Alright, Krull came close to matching Hawk, back at that time I thought Krull was the coolest movie out, still like it. Liam Neeson and Robbie Coltrane went onto bigger and better things. Lysette Anthony was better in those videos she did with Bryan Adams and Depeche Mode (I think she was in the one Beavis and Butthead made fun of.)

Krull is a lot of fun, and maybe just good enough to avoid the "so bad" part. Hawk the Slayer looks like something I'd have some fun with. Amusingly, it appears they use the same spinning ring-thing from Superman: The Movie which confined Zod and company.

Krull is one of those odd cases of a movie in which the whole is somehow less than the sum of the parts. If you said it was this big budget sci-fi/fantasy epic directed by the guy who made Bullitt and Breaking Away, with a cast featuring guys like Freddie Jones, Liam Neeson, and Robbie Coltrane, Lysette Anthony looking great, with cool monsters all over the place and the Glaive being one of the coolest movie weapons ever, you'd get people hyped for it, but instead it's just...sort of okay. I remember seeing it and feeling so disappointed that the glaive is only used in one scene and then HE LOSES IT. He should have been flinging that thing all over the place after he got it.

After all this time I still haven't watched any of the Gor movies. One day I might have to force myself to watch it. With Jack Palance I just kind of went from Hawk to Ripley's and zipped straight to City Slickers. I did like Welcome to Blood City ( before Hawk movie )

I never knew that Ken Marshall actually emerged years later as Lt Commander Michael Eddington in Deep Space Nine. I never made that connection.
