I've posted this movie before on the "Howardian" movie thread, but having recently re-watched it, I need to reiterate that "Brotherhood of the Wolf" absolutely "checks those same boxes" as Howard's writing. And furthermore the time period and story totally has "Solomon Kane" vibes, IMO you could pretty much insert Kane in place of the 2 hero's and have a better Solomon Kane movie than the actual Solomon Kane movie (which I also really liked). The movie is French, and I usually prefer subtitles to dubbing, but the English overdub isn't that bad and almost gives it a 60's/70's Hammer film feel (which also adds to the overall experience). The DVD is cheap (Ebay, Amazon, etc..), and I guarantee that fans of Howard will totally dig the movie. I loved that movie is one of the best on the action-adventure and fantasy genere that I have ever seeen, its a shame that their "Corto Maltese" adaptation was cancelled, I was sure that Christophe Gans would do a wonderfull movie about it. I like it a lot too. At the time I bought the long version on VHS. Some people have complained because it's absolutely not historically accurate: the beast was not a lion, there is not a single evidence supporting a conspiracy behind the 100 or so deaths, that having Kung-Fu scenes in 1765 France is rubbish... They can't seem to understand it was entertainment.

People always complains for not being "historically acurate" but as the time has pass , we are doing it less and less acurate, BUT ITS AN HISTORICAL FICTION, being accurate its not needed, also we never knew what was the beast, many people are still debating of what could have been.

Just re-watched the Soloman Kane movie last night, actually better than I remember. Only complaint was the the ending, IMO the giant CGI monster/creature was unnecessary (and anticlimactic after the showdown between Kane and his brother/Marcus), while the main antagonist Malachi (Jason Felmyng) was completely underutilized. I would have introduced Malachi earlier in the film (maybe at the crucifixion sequence), completely drop the GCI monster, and extend the final battle between Kane and Malachi.
