This image is up on Tom Grindberg's facebook page with the following description: Coming Soon! Conan the Slayer #12. I'm surmising this is probably the line-work for the cover? Then again, DH has been real quiet concerning the upcoming issues - with Admira Wijaya doing a fine job as fill-in artist with Conan the Slayer #7, it is kinda difficult knowing who'll be penciling Conan the Slayer by issue 12 - or even the next issue. Will it still be Sergio Davila, Admira Wijaya or even Tom Grindberg?

Unusual layout, a rampant Conan in an fine, sword-forward position, a distinctive-looking woman, and some scary-ugly enemies. all rendered in a lush style that blends pin-point detail with a soft, impressionist background. It's just so much more substantial and imaginative than what we've gotten accustomed to seeing. A good colorist could make this image a classic Conan cover.

This looks like a pretty exciting action shot. So far I like this much better than the cover for #11.

In this early rendition of the cover the lady (Octavia?) is missing.

Hopefully the colorist can do a better job this time. I think the colorist has to apply different textures when necessary - with the last cover the colors looked flat and the only variation was the use of a digital gradient to the base colors, no texture at all. I can't wait to see what Grindberg can do with the interior art. His artwork looks fantastic, from what I've seen I think it will be a memorable run.

They didn't solicit this issue with the July releases today since, well, they already have one for July. If it shows up next month with the August titles, we'll be back on track...I hope.

With cover art like this, it makes me think DH has given up on the book. I think Tom Grindberg is a talented interior artist and sequential storyteller, but these covers aren't doing anything for me. We really need someone like Joseph Lisner back to make these covers pop.

I don't know if this is the final colored version of the cover- or, if just the base colors have been applied?

Earlier concept designs for the cover by Tom Grindberg.

Ugh, the colored version looks even worse as a cover. This would look great as an interior page, but it's just not a good cover.

CONAN THE SLAYER #12www.darkhorse.com/Comics/30-778/Conan-the-Slayer-12#prettyPhotoJehungir Agha's plan to ambush Conan in the dead city of Xapur goes awry when his men encounter the enraged demon Khosatral Khel, who seeks the Cimmerians blood. But Agha's plight may be the break Conan needs to turn the tables on the Devil in Iron! CREATORS Writer: Cullen Bunn Artist: Dheeraj Verma Colorist: Michael Atiyeh Cover Artist: Phroilan Gardner? (obviously pencilled by Tom Grindberg) Publication Date: August 23, 2017 Price: $3.99 Don't know a thing about Dheeraj Verma, the artist for this issue, but, here's some of his Conan artwork I found online: My advice is don't waste your time/hard earned money buying this mediocre adaptation. Pick up a copy of Savage Sword of Conan 15, it'll cost you less.

I think you're being unfair. I rather enjoy this adaptation so far. Issue 8 and Issue 7 were perfect ways to flesh out the story without being filler and fitting it in naturally.

Let me explain... If I pick up issue 9 tomorrow, it'll cost me $16 (roughly £14) to read the rest of, and that's not even all of the adaptation. That is way too much money to spend on a comic that is admittedly better than the Brian Wood run, but, that is still not a good enough reason to spend sooo much money on a very average comic. If you look around you can pick up the original SSOC 15 for about £3 to £5! The art is better and the story is adapted in around 40 odd pages - beautifully illustrated, atmospheric, with a concise narrative, direct, to the point. Sometimes this new stuff can be really disappointing, and that's putting it mildly.

I'll be honest.....I disagree. We get to see details that were only described offscreen, we see characters get some fleshing out. The buildup is honestly more detailed and more believable.
