Just got this one on the digital app. It's....kinda rushed. There's no announcement of a hiatus so it seems very much like a last minute thing they threw together. At the same time there's an obvious sequel hook in that the ghoul from the first arc is still after Conan.
I hope they do finish this storyline; I fucking hate it when things are left hanging

Opened this up and was looking forward to a ghoul issue, but no Davila I put it back down without even reading it. I'll give it a go tonight, though.

For the record I DON'T think this is the final issue. They would have made an announcement. I think it's just a longer than usual hiatus.

Maybe after the Wonder Woman crossover we'll hear something. Dark Horse have a funny way of doing business. Still no word on a new series and no release date for the fourth Conan omnibus volume. something's amiss.

I'm wondering if they're in the middle of negotiating with the current owners and are waiting until the rights are worked out.

Read this earlier tonight and thought it was pretty good. I would have preferred Davila artwork, but for being a one-shot original tale, it was pretty good. Hopefully Bunn comes back on if the series continues, as I think his pastiche has been above average.
The Ghoul subplot has been particular cool, reminds me of classic bronze age comics for some reason.

It certainIy does seem Cullen was setting up the Ghul to be an antagonist for his entire run, but for now that's been short circuited. The story itself was pretty good, but really ramped it up a notch with Conan's final decision (though I'm not sure if it felt Howardian or Machenean, high praise in any case). The artwork start a little shaky at the beginning, but improved throughout the issue.
Wish there was more, maybe there will be someday.

I think they're on standby for now. As of now it's still selling more than other DH stuff so they may keep it around.

The fact they felt that, for whatever reason, they needed to put the book on hiatus when it still ranks among their better sellers must say something. Just don't know what at the moment...

I think overall, the Cullen Bunn and Sergio Davila run has been a vast improvement. The sales have been more or less the same as the Avenger series - and considering the delay between issues earlier this year that's quite an achievement. A few months ago there was talk of a new Conan series with Roy Thomas and Tom Grindberg, and of course, a printed version of their Tarzan comic-strip, all of these plans for have been dropped, for now, I think. Dark Horse have been unusually quiet about Conan for awhile now, and the fourth Conan volume is also nowhere to be seen. It looks like DH are uncertain concerning Conan's future, but as you say it is difficult to surmise exactly what is going on at DH at the moment.

Hello
Sorry for the necro thread, being my first post here and all; but I've been looking for recommendations regarding DH's two last Conan series, Avenger and Slayer. Didnt think creating a new thread was appropriate either.
To give some context, I loved the Busiek / Mignola / Truman DH output in all their respective volumes, including up to King Conan. Wood's run was a big disappointment for me like I think it was for several other readers; so I decided not to jump on Van Lente's new volume initially to wait and see and then took a break from following comics in general for a number of personal reasons.
Now I'm looking to see if there's anything really worth catching up with in these two I missed while I was away. Opinions appreciated.

Short version-writing on both was very good, art was sketchy on Avenger, much better on Slayer. If you’re interested in a different take on those stories, they’re worth a look. Wait until December, you might able to get them for discounts.

This is the kind of input I was looking for, writing is the most important factor for me; good art is appreciated as well but without good writing its just not worth it IMO. I'll wait to grab the TPBs on a hot sale.
