i thought Price [ bless and thank him for all his editing anthologies of new lovecraftian tales ] would know better than wasting his time messing with the famously cruel legal assassins of Set? [ they seem to be insanely ruthless? [they stopped the akivasha novel [ it was quite good] a few years ago.]
>> they should be encouraging /licensing publishers to produce collections of new short stories about conan, and about other characters in the world of conan?
only publishing new conan in comics, and in very crappy silly films, has made conan a pathetic joke?

Seen this announcement on Facebook, and it appears to be legit. Mr Price has some authorized Thongor material published, so one can only think this Conan work must be approved or otherwise legal...

I believe this was a Conan story written a long time ago, submitted to deCamp and never published. I recall Mr Price stating (last year?) that he was going to re-jig it into a Thongor adventure. Or not...

It just arrived! Is slim, 44 pages, but it only cost a few pounds. RMP gives the background in a Foreword, basically this was due to be a novel, he sent it to LSdC and it was set to be published but licensing issues raised their head. So he has printed it as "fan fiction" at cost. Will read it over the weekend

OK, I read it last night in one go. It's only 44 pages, so a fairly quick read. The plot concerns Conan, post some unkown adventure, hearing about mining work going on at a nearby temple site, where there is talk of treasure. So he gets a job at the mine in order to find and steal the goodies. Here's there a few weeks before being able to put his plan into operation, of course there are other people after the treasure at the same time. This all gets mixed up with a group of cultists looking to bring back the Old Ones at the temple site.
It's an easy read and flows along fine, though it shows signs of having been cut down from a novel. It is mostly Conan-ish in tone, though there were a couple of minor things that jarred for me, for example I feel the author's views on religion are crowbarred in at one point. Overall, it was entertaining, like one of the better SSOC pastiches perhaps, in fact I could visualise it in that medium quite easily. I understand that as "fan fiction" it is being sold at cost, so well worth a few bucks

If Price claims he is making no profit from the printing, then why go to all the effort of printing and hoping sales will cover his costs? He should have just posted the tale on a free website [ like this one? ] where all us conan fans could easily enjoy it for free? [ and that would enhance Price's good reputation and popularity ] [ will the dread legals of Set allow the book? i doubt it ] == >>[ or maybe he should have rewritten it as a 'swords vs cthulhu mythos' tale and included it in his next edited anthology of new lovecraftian tales? i would prefer that, because you know conan is never in real danger of being killed, or going gibberingly insane. i enjoy lovecraftian tales much more, because even the main characters are likely to suffer a horrible fate. ]

I'm curious how Price, whose non-fiction and editorial efforts have been excellent, treats the Cimmerian. A bit wary of the remark, "the author's views on religion are crowbarred in at one point", though. Supposedly something similar happened in the ultra-deluxe Burroughs pastiche The Martian Legion. I hope we don't see proselytizing in a pastiche.

Review of Robert M. Price's "Homage to Conan" published in 2017. Decent fun adventure. Conan vs. the Cthulhu Mythos.
