Long-time REH fan/publisher, Dennis McHaney, has this story about Howard Days 2017: So, on Sunday, June 11th, REHupan Tom Foster walked into the continental breakfast at a cheap motel in some little po-dunk Arkansas town, and a guy wearing a Howard Days t- shirt was at the coffee machine. Tom struck up a conversation with the guy, and he was returning from his first Howard Days. Besides buying a half dozen t shirts in the gift shop, the guy had also bought a copy of nearly everything in the Howard house, most of the Foundation books, and a pile of silent auction items. He remembered meeting Era Lee Hanks and Rusty Burke, among others. He was bubbling over with excitement, according to Tom.
I remember my first Howard Days. I didn't have the drooling enthusiasm some people have - I already knew a bunch of those people in attendance and I already owned all the books in the place, but there is still that "sense of wonder" feeling that first trip gives you. It is like being a kid and going to a giant toy store for the first time, or a college kid going to a strip club for the first time. All those goodies and never enough $1 bills, unless you took more money than you should be spending.

A good write-up from The Texas Observer: www.texasobserver.org/the-king-of-pulp/The journalist interviewed a lot of attendees and Cross Plains residents at this year's Howard Days. One of the better articles I've seen lately.

I will be attending my first Howard Days in 2018 and ... "drooling enthusiasm" seems to be the correct term applied.

Thanks for the Texas Observer link Deuce, great article. You've already posted several Howard Days vids on the forum, but just thought I'd post the main vid link to Ben Friberg's channel containing all the Howard Days 2017 panels: www.youtube.com/user/warriorphotog36/videos
