What IS your birthday?
Edit: Having read both articles I can also say that yes Roy brought me in to Conan. I got that big guide he wrote back in 06; then when I was in the UK I got out the reprints of Vol 9 and 11, which kinda hooked me in. Roy Thomas really did Robert E Howard a favor

Good write-up on Roy: comicvine.gamespot.com/roy-thomas/4040-42067/Guess who named Wolverine? I noticed in "creations" that Killraven isn't listed. This is typical. Roy was Marvel's Editor-in-Chief while writing at least 3 comics a month. He created Killraven, turned the character over to another comic writer in the Bullpen and then got back to work on other stuff...like making sure Wolverine wasn't named "Badger".

BADGER? Seriously. Then again the original origin for Wolverine was dumb too (he'd have been a hyper evolved Wolverine. They ditched that to use on Jessica....but then ditched it too.)

There are problems with this video -- sound level being one of them -- but the interview with Roy is good:

I am about to start vol 6 of the 70's Conan color comics and so far it's been an entertaining read. RT's writing is a bit too cheesy for my tastes but has aged well, the stories are great with the Tarim arc being my personal favorite. I know people generally consider Barry Smith's Red Nails as his best work but i think Frost Giant's Daughter is his best rendition of Conan artwork from the zoomed out panel of Conan and his opponent on the snow till the end, it's just beautiful. I expected Red Nails to be more atmospheric and grim, still it was well done.

A very interesting video from 1976 with Stan Lee & Roy Thomas talking comics, sword & sorcery and the success of REH's Conan at Marvel.

Wow, that’s a good price. With my new job, I can actually walk to Midtown Comics on my lunch hour. Might have to take a trip over in August.
