icv2.com/articles/markets/view/43199/april-2019-npd-bookscan-top-20-adult-graphic-novelsWow, besides movie and netflix tie-ins this list is dominated by manga. I remember when manga was insanely popular but it looks like it has a lot of staying power after all. I enjoy a number of manga series and read them regularly on a weekly basis. The American comics industry could learn a thing or two from the Japanese about telling serialized stories.

I have given up on much of the stuff churned out these days. Wanted something with grit so gave the Old Man Logan Bordertown series a chance. Best read I have had in years as far as comics are concerned.

What's the deal with Marvel, why do they get it so right sometimes, and so wrong too many other times ?!?

Good stuff that.

No, but I will check that one out. Thanks.

I read the Nick Fury MAX series 'My War Gone By' on the recommendation from Char Vell, and I'm pleased that I gave it a shot. Fury was jumping from one conflict to another over a decades long career, spanning French Indochina all the way to Nicaragua, it's dark at times with plenty of drama, both in the arena of combat and also Fury's personal life, certainly full of retrospective cynicism where lines between good and bad are often blurred. The art pencils and inks by Goran Parlov compliments the narrative well. I think it's good that there is a MAX line oriented more towards the adult readership, although you have to be on the look out for when these things crop up. Maybe Marvel should be more focused on this section pf the market. I am also finishing the Dead Man Logan arc that picks up where Old Man Logan left off. The wastelands setting of the alternative future allows Wolverine to end the careers ( permanently ) of some of the big name characters of Marvel comics. It literally is life or death. With the amount of punishment Logan receives, not to mention the adamantium poisoning and Regenix playing havoc with his aging body, I would not have held it against Marvel if they had titled it Sick Man Logan or Tortured Man Logan.

This article is kinda interesting concerning the difficulties that a new comic-shop can sometimes have with Diamond before they even open their doors for business: Coffee With Comics Has Grounds For Complaintwww.bleedingcool.com/2019/06/13/coffee-with-comics-complaint/?utm_medium=ppc&utm_source=onesignal&utm_campaign=general&utm_content=PNCoffee With Comics is a new comic book store opening in Glendale, Arizona, within an existing store, Jesse James’ Collectibles. And it is having… teething troubles. Jo Reynolds just posted her latest issues to Facebook. Or rather her latest lack of issues.First, they put me on pre-pay, meaning I have to pay for July’s comics in May. So I can’t possibly make the money back for 1.5-2 months.
Second, they started me out on ordering a month behind. My first order was placed in March (for May) and immediately after placing that I am told I have to now place June’s order. If I would have been told I was so close to the cut off for May I would have skipped it and just placed a June order so as not to stretch myself too thin (again I have to pre-pay so now they want 2 months worth of orders paid for within weeks of each other and I hadn’t even opened yet).
Third: My first order never arrives. I contact my sales rep who tells me oops she didn’t realize my account was active so those books will arrive next week. What good are new releases when they aren’t new?!?!
Fourth: I have to again request my order form and Previews link be sent to me because I still haven’t gotten them for July’s order so now I’m late on this order.
Fifth: I never got the previews for August order so my regional rep dropped one off for me.
Sixth: Last week’s order never arrives. I am told because I paid late (again I struggled to pay for 2 orders back-to-back) that they will be coming with this week’s order.
Seventh: Out of 60 books I was supposed to receive this week for last week and this week, I recieved 31 books!!! They shorted me HALF my orders from this week and last week!!! I am dead in the water before my store has even officially opened! I am scared to actually open because I don’t want to let people down and not have their books!
I heard all the horror stories about Diamond but hoped they were exaggerated. I now see they were not and that my hopes of being a successful store are greatly diminishing right before my eyes.
Sorry for the rant but I am scared, frustrated and feeling very hopeless and overwhelmed.

If you're opening a brick and mortar store in this day and age.....I hope you need a good tax write off. I can't think of a bigger gamble.

When I went to the comic shop nearest me to look for the new Conan books, they didn't sell new comics any more. Only back issues.

When I went to the comic shop nearest me to look for the new Conan books, they didn't sell new comics any more. Only back issues. There's a similar shop in South London. They dropped the new comics a couple of years ago. They only sell back issues now, and seem to be doing quite well. I should add that they've been around for 25 years and eventually decided to specialise in back issues and have a vast collection of old UK comics - most shops in the UK don't bother with back issues from the UK.
