It is odd how they pushed off the Emperor, Irulan and Feyd completely to part 2. But I have to think they have this well thought out.

It was interesting how the TV series brought Irulan into the show a lot earlier than the book.

I watched the older movie as a kid and it was about 4 hours long and remember being afraid of the Baron. Do you guys recommend a rewatch of that version?

I'm not as down on it as its reputation, but it does have issues of trying to pack a LOT into a short time frame. The theatrical version is on HBO Max and runs about 2 1/4 hours. The TV version is the one that runs around 3 plus hours. David Lynch doesn't like either one. I mentioned when I saw the first trailer that either Frank Herbert was painstakingly specific as to the look of a lot of things or this film does owe some of its look to the 1984 version.

The sets/costumes are excellent , the SFX not so good. There are some scenes from the Atreides time in Arrakeen that Lynch put in which aren't in the new one I would liked to have seen. The '84 film has too much of the early part of the book in it I feel which makes the later part feel rushed.

It sounds like a "David Lynch director's cut" will have to be done by someone else eventually, like Touch of Evil or Superman II...IF the footage still exists, hopefully it didn't get lost in one of the fires.

I know there was a fanedit a few years back called the Third Stage Edition which was basically an attempt to recreate Lynch's original intent. That might be as close as we ever get.
