I'd love to see what Jim would write about the Missouri Guerillas, esp if he knows anything more than I could find about the 'border roll' (gun trick used by Josey Wales in the movie), which is said to have originated with them. Apparently they used to ride into combat with a pistol in each hand and the reins between their teeth, firing as they charged. Now there's some off-hand shootin' for ya...

Roger Zelazny and Gerald Hausman wrote an interesting (historical fiction) book about John Colter's escape as well as Hugh Glass' legendary crawl back from near death (See movie "Revenant"). It alternates chapters between the two and in the end cleverly ties them together.
