WWE right now is creatively at a very low ebb and has been for a few years. Losing their primary competition in the U.S. and going public on the stock market has made the company complacent and predictable despite having the most talented roster it's ever had.
Just saw this...
The current and 2018 roster is the worst they have ever had on multiple levels.
WCW 97'/98' with it's vast roster of monsters, mega-stars, cruisers, luchas, old-school workers, technicians and international stars was the greatest roster to appear in a wrestling company ever and it will never be matched. They filled a three-hour wrestling show with record-setting ratings with almost non-stop wrestling where they relied much less on production and vignettes and just sent the wrestlers down to the ring to tell the story. WWE today wishes they had that ability.
Once the WWE monopolized the scene in the US, they forced the in-ring stuff to adhere to their template. Practically all the "stars" in WWE today came from that same cookie-cutter OVW training camp and all the matches follow the same standards and it shows, glaringly. There is nothing that resembles diversity in in-ring performances anymore, let alone the spectrum of talent that existed in WCW.

Hollywood Hogan was the best "heel" of all-time. People either loved him or hated him but no matter what they tuned in to watch him. Awwww the good ol' days... nWo 4 Life I donβt think Hollywood Hogan was the best heel of all-time, but playing that character certainly revitalized his career. Fans pelting him with trash when he turned was great TV. I think Ric Flair was probably the best heel of all time. Eric Bischoff does a podcast called β83 Weeksβ where he gives a lot of great behind the scenes information about WCW when he was in charge. Hogan, who was notoriously distrustful when it came to the business, loved working with Flair, and trusted him completely. He knew Flair would make him look like a million bucks, and would work his butt off to get Hogan over. Flair made a career out of being a heel. The heat he got from the crowd was an amazing love/hate relationship that lasted decades. I always had a soft spot for Big Van Vader as well. He was one of of the most intimidating big men ever to step into the ring. Every match he had looked like a shoot. His powerbomb was brutal. I happily agree that Ric Flair was amazing as a Heel and you can make a very, very strong argument he was the best Heel of all-time. Yes his in ring relationship with Hogan was stellar. Flair could make anyone and everyone look like gold in the ring.

Old thread, but I thought I would log in a few comments. IMO, wrestling has been on life-support for close to a decade, if not longer. They lost the core formula soon after they tried turning Steve Austin heel (bad guy) and went into the botched Invasion angle. Right at this time, Vince had as much mainstream exposure as could have been hoped for and they completely and utterly gave up the formula for...something else. They went into a horrible era of toilet-humor and sex-related angles. Everybody had a title (thus diminishing the titles) and they started working angles in which matches took place for all the wrong reasons. The idea that all these traveling tough guys were there first and foremost to win matches to climb the ladder to eventual title shots was lost. Instead, ever match had to have a contrived, unfulfilling story-line attached to it to justify it. Fast-forward to now and nobody cares who has the titles and nobody cares who wins and loses the matches. Now, the production, spectacle and celebrity is the focus, meant to be the main draw and it sucks. It's completely unallowable with no feeling of anything at stake, even in the pretend world of wrestling. If you want to watch a quality product, check out pre-2000 WCW Monday Nitro- 3 hours in which they would just send the wrestlers down to the ring and you could follow them as they won and lost matches rising and falling in rank. Great variety with Cruiserweights, Japanese, Lucha, Heavyweights and all commercials were book-ended with the Nitro Girls. Heh, just sitting here, I realized they couldn't have anything like The Nitro Girls in today's political climate. Sad. ECW on TNN was fun, for craziness. And yeah, Hogan-era, Bret Hart's era and most of the Attitude era and a few years after had it's share of great content too. But today's product is as dead as wrestling has ever been, no matter what WWE's stock says. Just check out how they have to tarp off half the arena for TV tapings. Wrestling is gone. Bonesaw is R-E-A-D-Y!!!! Great post!!!

Some of Rourke's best acting in that movie. He was great as Ivan Vanko in Iron Man 2 as well.

Iron Man 2 is probably my favorite Marvel movie. Scar-Jo was smoldering in that one. Rourke's scene at the race was awesome and I though Justin Hammer was a great character. Always a dime short and ten-minutes late compared to Stark, but then he comes out with that sweet dance at the expo. Movie was fun as hell.
