speaking of weird tuff...Roman Polanski once made a movie called The Tenet...it was so freaky and weird it made Rosemarys Baby seem like a Disney channel flick...I couldnt make it all the way through...to harsh on brittle nerves and all that

Some advice from Autocrit on writing good villains that make the reader feel like they're going to whip the good guy's azz up til the end... www.autocrit.com/blog/2017/10/23/create-villain-readers-will-love-hate/A piece of advice I read that I wish I could find again (because I can't recall who said it, or how exactly it was phrased) was (and I'm paraphrasing here): a well-written story gives the reader reasons to hope that things will turn out for the hero in the end, but reasons to fear that they won't. I think one way to interpret this might be: don't show your hand when you're writing, leave situations open and fluid so the reader can't figure out where it's going to go. On the bad guy - I don't think it has to necessarily always be a villain per se. You could easily substitute a situation for the 'antagonist', such as the planet killing meteor, etc, that must be stopped.

Thief, I dont know if U ever heard of french horor called "Martyrs" from 2008. but, that's one story that you should watch. Quality direction, good - WEIRDEST you can get - story, it has some sick scenes I couldn't get out of my head in the night. You mention something about an idea of a cult in your yarn ideas... Watch this... You'll thank me later (if I can say so 😶)

maybe Im a wimp but some horror stuff totally grosses me out. now I like weird tales but the gore can get to disgusting for poor old me. I guess one of problems is just defining what a weird tale actually is. Like you could say a Jackson Pollock painting is really weird and maybe they re program your brain somehow but they arent disgusting (well not to me anyhow)
maybe weird means fresh ideas...like I liked that Tom Cruise movie Oblivion because he played like four or five different characters in the film and it was fun trying to keep count of them all and what happened to them. I thought that was very weird/cool. I also liked that film the French Leutenants Woman because it was a story about a film crew making a movie. So you had scenes from the film they were making plus scenes from the crew filming the movie, and scenes from the crew filming the movie about a film crew making a movie. That was cool as freaking hello
I have read French Horror stuff and it can be pretty unsettling. I will never forgive myself for reading Salome by old Dumas...man what a freaking sick piece of writing that was

Well, my friend, this is one of those things that grosses you. That doesn't mean that you're wimp... You just must have stomach for it. I always wonder... When I was a kid, age of 5-6, I was obsessed with monsters of eny kind. I used to cry on my mother to get me fresh horror movie couple times a week - so I could fall asleep watching it! Other children watched cartoons, I needed bloody horror movies 😵 How weird that sound? That's the reason I don't watch that genre eny more. Iit doesn't work for me effective. But this Martyrs... Man... This is one of those you watch one time.

oh back in the day I did Horror movies and books to death. Then I just got bored with it and the more they upped the ante on the gore, the less I cared. Now I really enjoyed stuff like THE OTHERS with NICOLE KIDMAN but that was more what i classify as weird rather than horror I recall many years ago i watched a very vintage slasher flick called horror house starring none other than beach dude FRANKIE AVALON...this was way before the Halloween or friday thirteenth kill fests I recommend that one to you if it can be found anywhere...a real trip it was
