I'm not a big comic collector since my old collection died the death but I do on occasion pick one up. I think they look great on the shelves with the book collection. I have some John Carter comics on my Burroughs shelves but no Conan yet on the Howard shelves. There is a book store near me that has a box of the old SSOCs for about $3/ea - I'm thinking some of those might be cool to own again. I used to have quite a stack of them before they went the way of the Phoenix.

I only have the first 60 issues of the SSOC. I sold the rest of my comic collection a few years ago. Those SSOC issues for $3 sound tasty and well worth a browse, especially if the book store has the early issues with the REH adaptations - the early issues are a lot easier to find here in the UK.

I only ever had issues from like #80 on up IIRC. I remember The Mill - a great non-REH story. But I'd love indeed to get the early ones with the amazing Boris covers (although, honestly, they all had killer cover art no matter who did it). I plan on going to that little book store again and taking a closer gander at them. In the meantime I began collecting the Dark Horse editions of Savage Sword, but have only picked up the first 3-4 volume. I think there are 20 or so, so I still have a ways to go. They're cool, but I miss the old size format, with these big paperbacks being much smaller dimensionally. I really do like the size of those you got. They'd be awesome in the REH paperback collection for sure.

Usually these collections only ran a couple of volumes for Spidey, Hulk, FF, etc., the fact Conan got six shows you how popular he was. Or they knew how popular the Conan paperbacks were and wanted to put their product in a similar form.

The later issues had some beautiful artwork and stories. I got a bit of a soft spot for the issues illustrated by Gary Kwapisz, including The Mill and a few of the comics with Conan fighting the Picts, I think most of those were written by Chuck Dixon. Some of my early SSOC comics are starting to fall apart, even though they've always been bagged and boarded. I hope to have them bound into hardback volumes one day.

Or they knew how popular the Conan paperbacks were and wanted to put their product in a similar form. I picked these up at the Comic Mart in London and the dealer had a long-box full of these paperbacks. I resisted temptation and only picked up the Conan paperbacks. According to the intro by Roy Thomas the first 3 Conan volumes were released simultaneously.

Here's what Stan Lee had to say about REH (admittedly, only one sentence) and Conan in the preface to the first volume.
PREFACE by Stan Lee
Conan! Perhaps the most savage, most dramatic adventurer of all! Conan! Perhaps the most unique sword-and-sorcery hero in modern literature! Conan! Perhaps the most fearless and fascinating fighter from an age before history, from a land lost in time!
It was Robert E. Howard who created him, who breathed life into legend and glory and gore! And it was Marvel Comics who adapted him, who - under the literary aegis of Roy Thomas - fleshed him out in illustrated panel form, thus presenting and revealing him to a new generation of readers, creating new sparks which flamed the rebirth of the cult that is Conan!
But why this ever-increasing fascination for the bludgeoning hero of the Hyborian Age? Why such an army of readers, such a legion of fans? Whatever the reason, one thing is certain. simplistic statements and shallow logic will not provide the answer. It is far too easy to say that people are turned on by the aura of violence or the semblance of savagery. No, the reasons are far deeper, far more complex. Perhaps the hint of magic, the sense of wonder, the revelation of a noble soul within a bestial breast, perhaps all of these and more may partially account for the phenomenon of Conan.
Whatever the reason, you're in for a treat. On the pages that follow you'll savor the electrifying excitement of epic adventure in another age - the age of Conan the mighty, Conan the vengeful, Conan the lusty! But, above and beyond all else, you'll thrill to the saga - as only Marvel can present it - of Conan the Barbarian!
Excelsior! Stan

Those look like some mighty fine editions Hun! Great intro by Stan Lee there too.
I was never a big collector but I still have a few of the original American Conan comics, including no 24 The Song of Red Sonya, the second appearance of that character, though they are reading copies only.
