Thanks for all the REH birthday linkage.
I reread the Mirrors of Tuzun Thune. This has to be where Gary Gygax got the idea for the AD+D mirror of soul trapping.

What are you all planning to do for Howard's birthday tomorrow?

Pick up something to read with a glass of Guinness to make it go down!

Seems like the perfect opportunity for a glass of red wine and a good Conan story...after work, of course.

A toast and some reading seem called for. But an old original tale like The God in the Bowl or Rogues in the House, or something new? Hmmm.....

Great idea guys, Tomorrow night I'll raise my glass with few bourbons and beers, and a couple of REH Conan stories. This will of course round my night out with me waking up in my chair with a book on my chest about 2 am.

I'll definitely be checking out the REH posts at the DMR Books blog in honor of Bob's birthday. There's one up already: dmrbooks.com/test-blog/2019/1/21/robert-e-howard-and-the-heroic-traditionFrom what I hear, there are two more going up before midnight. One is by REH biographer/S&S author, David C. Smith. The other is by our own Von K. I might also raise a mint julep (REH had his own julep recipe) in Howard's honor.

Tonight it's a large glass of red wine, a meaty feast, and reading a story or two of REH's in his honour.

Yet to decide which REH yarn I'll dive into, but I'll definitely have some Bell's whisky.

Read The Hyborian Age this morning and will read Solomon Kane throughout the day on my breaks. Doubt I'll get to read much at home, but I'll take a page out of the Tolkien Society when they have a 'worldwide' toast to Tolkien on his birthday, and raise a glass of something good at 9pm and offer a humble toast in honor of REH.

In my previous post, I wasn't implying that I wouldn't read any REH today. Far from it. This morning I reread Howard's poem, "I Praise My Nativity" (it's here on the forum: swordsofreh.proboards.com/post/8879/thread ) and his great story "Spears of Clontarf." I may yet read "The House of Arabu" before the 23rd arrives. I consider that yarn REH's most underrated S&S tale.

I have decided to go for something a bit different for REH's birthday, at least in my case. I have grabbed my copy of Night Images with the Frazetta cover and will read some poetry by Robert E. Howard instead of a yarn.

I will likely dip into Beyond the Black River or House of Arabu or Fire of Asshurbanipal or Two Against Tyre and Spanish Gold on Devil Horse, the last two of which I've not read for decades.
