This article from 'The Hollywood Reporter' is about 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'; nevertheless, the point it makes is obviously applicable to what is happening right now in this forum, on this thread. The point is that the Alt-Right, together with the Russian trolls, is intentionally polluting internet forums in which pop-culture phenomena is discussed, in order to politicize everything, and then to, through doing that, try and harm what little still remains of culture. All this that was mentioned above is very recognizable right here: right-wingers, together with people pointing out to Russia, did everything they could to pollute the Conan franchise and to stop the production of the announced Conan TV series. I'm with Megatron insofar that I would rather have no Conan series than a bad, "Conan light" series that makes the character unrecognizable. It's not about politics but about wanting to see ROBERT E. HOWARD's Conan. I wish Nispel's Conan would not have been made. All it did was making even more people think they know all about Conan, that he's a generic s&s character who wants to avenge the slaughter of his parents. I want to see the series and say "yeah, THAT's Conan! The badass that I've been admiring for 40 years."
Well, congratulations then, since you got what you wanted -- it is even very possible this forum and all the right wing talk played a role in this TV show's cancellation.
I would say that this reasoning you expressed here would be the same as if Tarzan fans stood up and demanded that Weissmuller Tarzan films production is stopped because Tarzan is different in the books. But if there wasn't Weissmuller's Tarzan, there would be no Tarzan's presence in pop-culture. That is the problem with being a puritan: the only really pure thing is nothing.
Also, interesting thing, this, how right wingers like you were pushing things towards the exact same outcome that the liberals were also pushing forward to -- the cancellation of this series.

Hold on now, I have it on good authority that the Russians are discerning connoisseurs of fine Sword and Sorcery. 
But yeah, the chatbot thing is weird, creepy, and the type of futurism we deserve.

But yeah, the chatbot thing is weird, creepy, and the type of futurism we deserve.

A friend of a friend of an AI's uncle told me that S&S is big in Russia  Personally I think a lot of the overly politicized talk on the net is generated by chat programs with real folks overseeing them on multiple platforms to steer them and correct glitches. I don't think it's necessarily designed as much to manipulate people as it is to determine demographics for marketing and polling data. |

I think it's just the extreme polarization of the western society.
In Europe it's the same as in the US. The political fringes on the left and especially right are getting stronger.
Italy's new goverment is a coalition between right-wing populists and left-wing populists. Crazy!
It's difficult to have rational discussions in this climate because instead of actually listening to what the other has to say and trying to understand where he's coming from people get put into a box.
"Don't agree with me? You must be alt-right. Everything you say is crap anyway."
This of course furthers the polarization of society because, if media and politicians do the same, people's fears and interests are not taken serious anymore.
But now I'm talking politics again...I should take a break from this thread until there is news about the TV series.
