With Google now idiotically taking away the "View" option from their Image search function and replacing it with "Save", which doesn't seem to work the same in regard to posting pics on this forum, I've decided to look into the various image-sharing/hosting sites. I've actually had a Photobucket account for years but hardly ever used it because I found it more trouble than it was worth. I've heard bad things about it recently. Is there any reason why Pinterest wouldn't work as a cache to post pic links from? It appears to be more all-around handy than just an image-stashing site like Photobucket. What are the thoughts of my fellow forumites?

Deuce, After Photobucket conducted their now-infamous coup I, too, began looking for another photo hosting site--specifically so I might add photos on this forum. Their hideous speedometer ticked off the whole world, I think. I settled on Imagur, where I now post my images. I also signed up with Deviant Art to post my story covers and oil paintings, but am not sure how well posting images here from their site might work--I've never tried it. I'd be happy to experiment and post my results here. I haven't used the Google method you mentioned, although I have posted some images to my Google site (wasn't aware you could post there and share). I also have a Pinterest account, but haven't tried to share the images on a forum--I will attempt to do so and post the results here. Chris.

Uploading images to Imgur and then posting them here is relatively straightforward and easy. However, as with a lot of these sites, it can be temperamental: occasionally, the upload process goes awry, and the stats that they report on your images have become unreliable - they reported a bug in the system some time back, and they don't seem to have fixed it yet. I've been looking at a few less well-known sites recently, but haven't settled on one yet. Both Chris's images show up fine, although, strangely, the Pinterest one appears much bigger in one browser than it does in another. ...... Kail, the disparity in size you are seeing might be where--for very large images--I click on the BBCode tab while posting and frequently revise the Max Width. I take these images at a fairly high resolution, and if posted full-size they would be enormous. It simply allows the forum reader to see the image without having to perforce do a lot of scrolling. Here's an example: img alt="" style=" max-width:40%;" src="https://orig00.deviantart.net/40b1/f/2018/025/5/6/desert_sunset_by_zlzf33-dc14wh8.jpg"

When I've uploaded images in the past, I've always just dropped the resolution before uploading, rather than worrying about resizing afterwards, but your way obviously gives more options about how to present the image... It really depends on the site, and what you are using it for. For my website, I recently upgraded to a paid site to expand my bandwidth. I added a page to highlight items from my book collection, and knew that (eventually) space would be an issue. For this site, I downsize the images. I'm only posting images where a less resolution of the image is fine. Insofar as my paintings are concerned, however, I felt viewers might wish to see the 'grain'---the tooth as they call it--- of the canvas. So on Imagur and Deviant Art, I post at full resolution so they can see the weave of the canvas if they so wish. The benefit on this forum, for instance, is that you can host your images at full resolution on your hosting site, utilize the BBCode tab here to reduce the overall size by modifying the Width scale factor, and still have the full resolution available on your hosting site for those who wish to see the image at full resolution. To illustrate, here again is an my desert painting I did over Christmas break this past, from Deviant, at full resolution without reducing it from full 100% on the BBCode tab. Note, you may now see the the grain of the canvas board, every brush stroke, and every mistake I ever made:

I've been posting images to this forum from Pinterest since the get-go. A huge source of images courtesy of Google's "Search Image" function. Using that would give you the option to "Visit" or "View". "Visit" took you to the actual webpage. "View" just gave you the pic. All you had to do was copy the URL and paste it into the image box here at the forum when doing a post. Now, there's about 2 or 3 extra steps...and then it doesn't want to post a pic here anyway! I just tried again. I have no idea why Google went this route, but I am not pleased. I figure if I join Pinterest, it might give me easier access to other people's images and provide a platform for me to upload my own pics to before posting them here. Whoa! I just tried Bing Image Search (which I've never used before) and it worked like the old Google. I think, at least in my case, Google just screwed up. I'll still probably join Pinterest, though.

Hi Deuce. Using the new [changed] GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH. The QUICKEST way to get the address of the selected image is with these 2 easy steps... 1. right click on image thumb + select 'open link in new window'. 2. [ then it shows the image bigger on left side] [ image size is written underneath, eg. 955x640 ] > right click on image + select COPY IMAGE ADDRESS. [ then later, paste address where you want it ] >>>> other usefull options = in stage /step 2 screen = right click on image + select OPEN IMAGE IN NEW TAB [ to see image fullsize ] in stage /step 2 screen = right click on image + select SEARCH GOOGLE FOR IMAGE [ then select ALL SIZES to choose from more versions of the image ] ==== [ i too am annoyed with the silly changes by google, but now i have found the new 'shortcuts' and got used to it ] >> i use imgur, and also my tumblr blog, for storing hosting any edited pics [ but tumblr is very fiddly to learn and set up ] deviantart and pinterest are a vast source of images. i adore them both. [ i use google chrome browser ]

I just tried Bing Image Search (which I've never used before) and it worked like the old Google. I now see what you mean about the Google change. I see there is a Share button now; if you click that it pops up a list of options, one of which is Click to Copy Link. Should work!

You can also use Yahoo images which does what Google did before they axed the view image. If you are looking for something specific you can always use Google to search the image, and than just go back to yahoo to bring it up on images.
Funny thing is that when I first went on the net I used Yahoo, and now I am finding myself going back for some things.
