So, Joe Jusko posted this on The Comic Book Art of Conan the Barbarian Facebook Group today:
So can we assume there is going to be a new Conan ongoing series and he's the cover artist? It seems like there are a lot of Conan projects going on between the Miniatures Game, Tabletop RPG, and new video game, so who knows.
Looks like we'll find out soon.

I wouldn't automatically assume it's a new series. With the game coming soon, it could be related to that, or some new book release.

Why has the market shrunk though? Three factors have conspired to shrink the overall monthly comic market: - Direct market comic stores are closing at a good clip and not being replaced; monthly comics are no longer available via mass markets (like spinner racks in pharmacies, for example).
- The price point: $3.99 or more for 22 pages of content is not a good deal, especially when you can wait for months and get the trade for less than the total single issues cost.
- Younger readers are abandoning print for digital and while we don't have a good gauge of digital sales, estimates put them at 10% over the print run.

One other reason is the big companies, for whatever reason, decided it was in their long term interest to alienate older readers. They may not put it that way, but when you have a strategy, like both DC and Marvel have done, of not having triple digit issue #s, you're saying what was old isn't working for us. How great would it have been to see Action or Detective #1,000? That chance is gone as is any other centennial for the Marvel titles. Marvel lost me twice, with Disassembled and somewhere in the middle of Heroic Age. Dark Horse's version of this with Conan was making the decision to have Queen of the Black Coast exist on its own with no reference to previous stories and hiring a writer who was told that was the purpose. They broke their bond with readers who wanted that cohesive story and it doesn't look like they'll be coming back.

Maybe not to the old heights but if they reverse course they can get AT LEAST 10,000 or so

Maybe not to the old heights but if they reverse course they can get AT LEAST 10,000 or so The more I think about it, the more I believe that to be a pipe dream. Sure, if they start with a new #1 they will probably get over that, but the creative team is really going to have to win those new readers over. Otherwise, it'll revert back to us 6,800-7,000 loyal readers who will buy anything Conan. As others have stated, people just aren't buying a ton of comics these days. Also, don't forget about the law of diminishing returns. The Busiek and Nord opening arcs were new and hot. There hadn't been a Conan comic in a while. Perhaps Dark Horse has run the stallion too much and over saturated the demand? Another reason to maybe just go forward with Truman and Giorello adaptations until the contract is up. If you're going to go out, go out with your best foot forward I say. If they put together a new ongoing with a fresh creative team (namely an interior artist, because I think Fred Van Lente has been doing a fine job), I'll support it, but if not, I'd be happy with Truman and Giorello adaptations until the end.

I want the prince wazir wrapped up at least. But I think that better art may raise things at least a little. Or they can have other artists adapt other stories to speed it up

Well, if you believe some of the rumours pertaining to DC's mysterious rebirth/relaunch/reboot - select as appropriate, re-numbering is a possible return for Detective/Action/Batman etc, but I think maybe along the lines of DH no.23 in an ongoing series of 230 etc.

I think the other issue is the rise of Image comics, I used to buy mainly DC, what used to be called independents and Conan. Image now dominates my buy list as they put out some great series with said art/writers, and for me, limited series that are focused, story led and not some of the shambling regurgitive stuff put out by the big two (IMO).

Guess the attitude is "Red Sonja's selling better? Go get the people who work on Red Sonja!" At least art-wise anyway. It's definitely a step back towards more traditional Conan art. Don't know any of Bun's work, I'll look forward to hearing what his approach will be. Also looking like we'll be heading towards Devil In Iron then People of the...hey wait...
