Anyone who could recommend more comics that feature Khitai? I've only read Demons of Khitai and the adaptation of The Tower of the Elephant, but I guess that one doesn't count. If I remember correctly Prince Conn, spent some time in Khitai. I think Conn's adventures were backup stories in Marvel's King Conan.

I think Conan had an illegitimate son show up who was half-Khitain. I believe it was in Marvel's King Conan. I imagine that was a tie-in to an earier adventure of Conan's in one of the earlier Marvel Conan titles.

It was. On his way to rescue Zenobia Conan had rescue sex with a khitan woman. Conn found out and met his half brother and combined with his already existing teenage rebellion basically caused him to be disenchanted with his dad; I think the story was he would ultimately come to terms with the fact that his father was ultimately a flawed human being rather than the perfect badass he idolized as a young lad and he ultimately accepts daddy warts and all.

Last month was a good news/bad news set of numbers:
219 CONAN THE AVENGER #24 6,924 (last month-6,898, up 26, +.37%)
Hey, any tick up is good news. Have we found a floor in time for it to end?
226 KING CONAN WOLVES BEYOND THE BORDER #4 6,574 (last month-6544, up 30, +.45%)
Steady.
Red Sonja #2 came in at 6954, back down to earth.
Now for the bad news... Trade
158 CHRONICLES OF CONAN TP VOL 31 EMPIRE OF UNDEAD 936
As I've said, under 1000 for pre-orders for something like this isn't really good. Especially since this is nearing the end of its run and it marks the return of Roy. but if you think THAT'S disappointing...
277 CONAN HC VOL 19 XUTHAL OF THE DUSK 539
I don't even have the words to describe this. The only way it could be worse is if it was for the trade, we'll find out how that is in a few months.

It's definitely time for a relaunch.... the monthly books are holding steady, but those numbers are far too low. Especially for King: Conan and that creative team. They deserve 5 digit sales figures for the quality they're putting out.
Perhaps the Chronicles of Conan trades will jump back up a bit when they start collecting the Roy Thomas stuff.
I'm not surprised at all regarding Xuthal of the Dusk getting such low numbers. There hasn't been a lot of interest in the monthly book for some time now, so it's expected that would carry over into the trade market as well.
Let's hope Dark Horse puts some serious force behind this relaunch of The Slayer.

I browsed the Xuthal hardcover in the store. It just seemed....fragile in a way. There weren't any author's notes in the back like in Busiek or Truman. I always preferred TPBS to be honest.

The sad part, Jason, is this IS the Roy Thomas material!

I used to buy the HCs religiously until you know who was writing. They used to be really special. My favorite parts were the forwards and/or afterwards with the creative teams on how they approached the material. I'd love to hear Fred's take on how he's tackling this part of Conan's career. If they're not going to bother with that, why not just wait for the trade...except the trade numbers were bad too.
They'd BETTER have Tim do something in the WBTB trade!

It appears that DH is putting a strong marketing push into the Slayer relaunch. Let's hope it works!

They made a big deal about the cover and for good reason! Hopefully we'll hear from Bunn some time in June or early July about his ideas for the title...and some more artwork!

I prefer paperback over HC. TBC is more easy to handle, whereas HC are stuffy and tend to break if not handled properly. Not to mention the price difference. I really liked Xuthal tbh.

*gulp Perhaps it's just the way these things go when collecting A LOT of material. Not everyone sticks with it all the way to the end.

In all fairness there aren't that many tpb's left to collect. We have the Coming of Shuma Gorath (which should go up to 257/258).......Whatever comes next (which should go up to either 266 or 267) then the finale. It might not be super high but it will end with relative grace.
Blasphemous as it sounds if Arnie's king conan movie is a success it might do what the original movie did and make people interested.

Thing is even the lackluster Chronicles material over the past couple of years was coming in at the usual range in the low 1000s. it was a surprise to see the return of Roy volume drop like this. Chances are the remaining three (?) volumes are going to stay in this range.
I'm not holding my breath for any movie right now, but that's a whole 'nuther thread. If DH wants to get people buying their product, they'll have to continue the course correction that we suspect is going on with Conan the Slayer.
