End of an era here, no floppy numbers for Conan, but a final trade #: 59 1.45 $19.99 DAR Savage Sword of Conan v22 1,481 Pretty much around the 1500 "norm" for the series. A one volume Conan the Savage release could certainly be warranted based on the steady performance of the SSOC series overall. In other news: DH's highest title was at 123, Hellboy in Hell #9 at 15,696. Their highest trade was Rebels V1 at a little over 2000. Red Sonja came in at 6349, below Conan's "floor". Something tells me they're going to keep reprinting everything they can. I'm not sure they can reprint all of the Marvel issues coming up, though. I think there are one or two that has Conan crossing over with Rune. I imagine they could if they paid Marvel a licensing fee, though.

I think a one volume Conan the Savage and a 2 volume Conan the Adventurer are petty likely once the CTB reprints are done. A collection of the GNs would also be nice (they dropped the ball by not including Conan of the Isles in with Conan the King IMO). And of course the elusive Holy Grail of reprints...Giant Size Conan 1-4 and SSOC 8 & 10, with the B&W issues colored with old fashioned coloring, NOT modern coloring.

Hopefully there won't be too many more months like last one: no new Conan product was on sale last month. Hopefully today starts another long streak.

Back when avenger came out it did well at first (it was dark horses second highest); when I read the first issue online. It's good enough that I think it could get the sales back on track

I never seen any sale numbers for "Dark Horse Presents Conan" Issue 21. Has anybody seen those?

I double checked the April Top 300 chart and DHP didn't show up. That likely means it didn't sell enough to make the Top 300, much like the later issues of REH's Savage Sword which also didn't chart. In this case, it means it sold less than 4300 copies.

Is REH's Savage Sword cancelled? My local comic book store removed the title from my pull list.

Is REH's Savage Sword cancelled? My local comic book store removed the title from my pull list. There's never been an official notice, but it's been over a year since the last issue and the October solicits just came out with no sign of #11, so we've pretty much assumed it's cancelled. I would like to see the Gods of Bal-Sagoth adaptation finished somewhere along the way, but it may end up slipping out in some DHP issue with very little fanfare. I doubt we'd even get something along the lines of what DC did when the last issue of their Doc Savage series slipped out online.

Thanks for the reply. That is unfortunate; I really liked the premium format of Savage Sword. May also have been its undoing -- people not justifying paying $8 for a comic?

May also have been its undoing -- people not justifying paying $8 for a comic? if it helps, I e-mailed my comics supplier and they confirmed that this title was cancelled a ways back, just no official announcement from DH. as I mentioned before, its not only the cost that killed it, but basically if you have been following howard for a long time in comics form you are paying for coloured reprints, it was not a good deal imo.

And the numbers are in:
167 CONAN THE SLAYER #1 13,388
Not as high as Barbarian's 20K #1, but solidly above Avenger's 10,500 for its #1. It was also DH's #3 book for the month. Very positive.
As for trades...
118 CHRONICLES OF CONAN TP VOL 32 SECOND COMING SHUMA GORATH 894
119 KING CONAN WOLVES BEYOND THE BORDER TP 874
Funny how they end up back to back. Not so funny that they both ended up below 1000. Even worse they were below 900. Sad that the good stuff Roy wrote towards the end is selling way less than the mediocre stuff that ran before it. I wonder if this will make them reconsider the reprints for now. They should probably go with the ones I mentioned up thread (Conan the Adventurer V1-2 and Conan the Savage phonebook) and see how they sell before trying any of the other stuff from the 90s.
As for King Conan...yep, looks like we're done here.

Those numbers are disappointing all around. I had expected Slayer to do close to 15k and that King Conan trade really needed to be closer to 950-1,000, considering the quality that goes into those minis, it is a bummer for sure and I doubt we'll get anymore King Conan for now, if ever. I realize that Conan is still selling well for DH but it isn't selling well for what Conan could potentially do in this market.

15k would have been great, but the way the title has been selling, 13k is perfectly acceptable. DH's top seller was Black Hammer #1 at just under 20k and a Predator/Aliens/Judge Dredd mash-up falling in the 17k range. With the way they'd been handling the title and especially with the very low debut of the previous series, this is good news. It looks like DH just isn't able to pump out really big sellers any more. They're probably in a battle for 5th place behind DC, Marvel, Image and I'd say even Boom. These numbers would be a disaster at any of those companies, but at DH right now, it's as good as can be expected.

It is their fault. The title is unable to attract new readers due to the atrocious past series Dark Horse released (Queen of the Black Coast, Conan the Avenger). Nobody is interested in giving it a chance anymore, but the diehard fans. To change things a bit, they should invest in some high caliber artists, but now it may not be commercially viable anymore.
