Well, I almost agree on the theatrical version of JL. It falls apart on the second viewing, when the joins between the two very different movies that were shot become agonizingly apparent (One wag has dubbed it Mary Shelley's Justice League). I could rant about Henry Cavill's Uncanny Lip, or the fact that they spent so much money to make the film look cheap, or how they created plotholes and inconsistences with the reshoots. Instead, I'll examine one scene that exemplifies the wrong-headed decisions perfectly.
Snyder shot a Lois/Martha scene that took place in Smallville. I saw the still online. As far as I know, it hasn't leaked (yet) but I'll venture out on a limb and say it takes its subject matter seriously. In it's place, we get Whedon's replacement scene, which looks like it was filmed in a corner of the WB cafeteria, but is supposedly the Daily Planet. You can tell immediately what was shot by Whedon and what was Snyder because all of Whedon's scenes are digital video, and Snyder's movies are always on film (except for his short film he did a few months ago on his iPhone). Also, Amy Adams looks like she has a sunburn and appears visibly dismayed at the awful dialogue she's delivering.
In the Snyder Cut, Lois helps uncover the pattern behind the Parademon abductions and plays some role leading to Superman's resurrection (I'm going from what I've gleaned). She's not the one who talks down Superman post-resurrection, it's Martha, in a callback to the scene in Man of Steel where she helps Clark with his sensory issues as a child. Side note: In the Snyder Cut, using the Mother Box to bring back Superman places him under the control of Steppenwolf, that's the reason he attacks the League. The theatrical version makes it seem like he's grouchy and still sore over Batman attacking him. Which ironically, makes Superman a darker character than anything Snyder ever did (and he really didn't make Superman dark, but that's a whole other issue). That's what happens when a vision is replaced with a committee.
Here, Lois and Martha are reduced to The Girlfriend and The Mother, and largely disappear from the movie after an ill-advised oral sex joke. The grieving process is funny! Great job, Mr. Joss "Strong Female Character" Whedon. Though, to be fair, I guess he didn't have many dating opportunities on this set. The scene ends with a TV news report about a woman claiming her husband had been abducted by aliens. The report plays the whole things for laughs. Lois, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who was engaged to an alien, shows no interest in this whatsoever. But wait, it gets worse. In-universe, there was an alien invasion that flattened part of Metropolis and killed thousands not three years earlier. I can guarantee you, if someone in that world starts ranting about aliens, people wouldn't laugh --- they'd be terrified. But we need a lighter tone, right? I mean, we wouldn't want the audience to think that the characters might be grieving for a lost loved one, right? We certainly don't want the audience to take anything seriously, right? Say what you will about Snyder, he truly believed in what he was making, and it shows. The reshot JL wasn't, and it shows.

Which ironically, makes Superman a darker character than anything Snyder ever did (and he really didn't make Superman dark, but that's a whole other issue). The decision to have Superman kill Zod probably didn't help matters. It would probably have helped if he had been allowed to make a proper sequel to Man Of Steel, instead of messing up both Batman and Superman in BvS. That would've allowed the character to develop properly, maybe lighten up a bit and become more like the way Superman's supposed to be. ...... Speaking of they way Superman's supposed to be, imagine this Superman III instead of the one we got: www.cbr.com/richard-donner-brainiac-superman-iii/

Aquaman was a lot of fun, possibly the best cinematic experience I had all year. Not very deep, but solid, with a great third act. It benefits greatly from not being a Frankenmovie like Justice League. Momoa has finally become the star he deserves to be. Lots of parallels with Man of Steel. For instance, in both movies, the first time we see the hero as an adult, he saves some people at sea. He's a character with ties to two worlds, bullied as a kid, fights a guy in black armor, falls in love with a redhead. Atlantis, like Krypton and Themiscyra is a visually stunning world unto itself. There's a great pulpy feel with undersea kingdoms and lost worlds. See it in IMAX, if you can.

My old TC buddy, Al Harron, has this to say:
"I saw Aquaman, and it feels like it was PERSONALLY MADE FOR ME. See, most comic adaptations, even the crazier Marvel ones, think "how can we make this grounded, realistic, and relatable?" Aquaman was more concerned with "How many occult allusions, lost civilisations, sea monsters, Theosophical references, and ARMIES OF CRAB PEOPLE FIGHTING BATTLE-SHARK RIDING FISHMEN can we fit into the runtime?"
Because there comes a point where making superhero movies "realistic" results in increasingly diminishing returns. You could do it with folk like Batman or Green Arrow as they're just vigilantes. But Aquaman is the King of Atlantis, Guardian of the Seven Seas, whose greatest power (used to EPIC effect here) is how he can communicate with, & eventually command, all the biota of the sea - what's the Chris Nolan version of that?
You can argue about how the film stands on plot, characterisation, dialogue, other conventions. But visually & conceptually, I found it a work of goddamn art."

And just like that, Aquaman joins the billion-dollar club. It also appears that despite his treatment by the studio, Snyder still has a hand in shaping the DCEU films, including Aquaman. "James Wan was showing Zack Snyder - against the studio's wishes - cuts of the movie and early test screenings and storyboards to make sure that they're on the same page with what he originally wanted and Snyder gave his blessing of approval, bringing it back to what he wanted all along."screenrant.com/aquaman-zack-snyder-joss-whedon-justice-league-changes/

I generally hate superhero movies because they have taken over the market of high budgeted action films, and I also find them to be dreadfully boring most of the time. But after watching a few clips form Aquaman I must admit that my interest is piqued. Still not going to watch tho.

I managed to watch Aquaman last week.
It's an entertaining movie with a good performance by Momoa, a lot better than his performance in Conan.
Unfortunately it is also a poorly constructed movie with a bad habit of adding 5 minutes of exposition preceding each action scene.
It is still fun and watchable.

This actually looks like it might be good. Yeah, it looks like a decent movie by DC for a change. Maybe it's also the early 80's setting, but it reminded me a little of Taxi Driver starring Robert De Niro, like the idea that I can still watch a movie and also enjoy it for the character portrayal. You look at this, you almost feel sorry for the guy that becomes the Joker, but at the same you realise how dangerous and psychotic he would become. I always saw the Joker as a creature of chaos, some of that came out in Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker, now this portrayal by Joaquin Phoenix. Really hope it's as good as the trailer promises it to be.

Saw a trailer for Birds Of Prey during the previews for a movie while at the theater. Looks like it will be the dumpster fire of the year.
