For being THE action star for the past two decades, The Rock still doesn't have a single movie that compares to even a moderate action movie from Schwarzenegger or Stallone in the 80s. I don't think anything is ever going to touch that era of action movies. I mean hell, I would rather watch a mediocre Van Damm movie than anything The Rock has put out. I don't know if it is even isolated with The Rock, but perhaps more with the production of movies these days, but for some reason there is a detectable genericness about it, less genuine? Too much CGI? I don't know.
I think the Rock makes very different movies than Arnold was in. With Arnold we were getting powerful action movies with testosterone and hopefully a lot of explosions.
The Rock might share a similar physique, but his movies tend to be more fun, light heart action flicks. Personally I prefer that since his acting isn't the greatest, but he at least comes across as a fun character in his movies.
I prefer the Arnold movies from back in the day, but I don't think its a fair comparison since they make very different styles of movies. The 80s action film is dead and I don't know if current hollywood can even make another film in that style anymore. Look at the expendables, they were going for the 80s nostalgia and still couldn't come come to capturing the feel of the 80s.

Hmmm. Kindergarten Cop. Twins. Last Action Hero. Junior. True Lies. These all seem like stuff the Rock would be in, in addition to Arny's more serious action stuff.

Part of what made these films work was the way they deliberately riffed on and contrasted with his image in the more serious action stuff. For an actor without Arnold's background in more gritty action flicks you'd lose that xtra layer of resonance.

I know nothing about Black Adam. But, it looks like a pretty good film, and Hawkman looks cool, too.

I saw Black Adam tonight. It was pretty good. The Rock didn’t seem like The Rock more than his character this time, like I feel he does in other movies. He seemed really suited to the role. Gonna give it 4 out of 5. There were some scenes that didn’t transition well to the next scene, and just a tad bit of cheesiness.

It looks like they did a good job on him from the previews.

Man of Steel 2 may be on the chopping block as well and Jason Momoa may move from Aquaman to Lobo. As if it couldn’t get messier over there…

You know Warner Brothers has confidence in this when they're releasing it despite Ezra Miller's issues.

I guess the $90 million or so on Batgirl could be written off, but this probably had to be in the $200M ballpark for that thinking to work out. Do they think there's THAT much of an audience out there for this? I mean, look at Avatar, over $2 billion worldwide, yet neither me or my son know anyone who's seen it. Maybe they're hoping for that, they'll just show up. My guess is they're probably in for (another) disappointment. Ezra's no Jason or Gal to carry a film by himself. That may be why we have umpteen Batmans in here.
