Yeah, he is probably experimenting with a different style with this rendition of Conan. To be honest, I don't think successfully. I'm trying to hold on to anything positive, to repress the lurking fear that Marvel's new Conan efforts will suck. None of those covers inspire me with confidence. The Cassaday one looks like manga to me.

The regular covers for both books look good enough, especially the Alex Ross covers for the new SSOC. Jason Aaron is a pretty decent writer and appears to like REH and we'll have to wait and see how Asrar handles the art. I'm kinda looking forward to the art by Ron Garney and the serialised Conan novella by our Scott Oden in the new SSOC book; it should be a treat. ..and I'd imagine that pretty soon we'll get an announcement concerning the creative team for The Age Of Conan book. Loads of potential for a writer to really explore the Hyborian Age with characters like Valeria, Belit or even Zula from the old Marvel comic-books. ....or completely new characters.

Nice work by Parrillo, that is much more reminiscent of some of the best SSOC covers

Yeah, the Parrillo cover is great. Given how many variant covers there are it's not surprising there's been a few duds. The Cassaday cover is a shame because I usually like his work but something isn't quite clicking with Conan it seems. I'm prepared for disappointment with the Marvel series, but so far I've at least been encouraged by some of what I've seen.

That Parrillo cover looks good. I know which one I'll be purchasing.

Anybody found a place to (pre)order these? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Most of the variants should be available at your local comic book store: Unfortunately, got a feeling all of the variants below will cost more than cover price, some a lot more (check out the the previous page on this thread), both at the comic book shop and online: CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 1:10 Variant Cover by John Cassaday CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 1:25 Variant Cover by GERARDO ZAFFINO CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 1:25 Variant Cover by Daniel Acuña CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 1:50 Variant Cover by Adi Granov CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 1:200 Variant Cover by Bill Sienkewicz CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 1:500 Variant cover by Hildebrandt 1:500 CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 - 2-PER STORE PREMIERE VARIANT COVER BY ESAD RIBIC You can pre-order CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 Collector packs from here (looks like they've sold out): www.stadiumcomics.com/products/conan-the-barbarian-1-collectors-pack-pre-order?variant=12797123330071Or keep an eye out for pre-orders on eBay: www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=CONAN+THE+BARBARIAN+%231+variant&_sacat=0&_sop=16Hope that helps.

That logo is just soooo bad . . . it still looks like it is in the rough draft stage.

I'll agree that Parrillo cover is very nice.
Like others, I am trying to remain optimistic but am having trouble doing so. Asrar's art looks very manga to me and does not fit well with Conan (for me).

That logo is just soooo bad . . . it still looks like it is in the rough draft stage. Hopefully it is. Seems that there's no room for the issue number, Marvel logo, price or whatever they typically put in the upper left. Unless they're putting all that info in the upper right now. Still, I'm liking the art, at least.

Logo looks like a Saturday morning animated show for kiddies. Precisely my thought. I can almost hear the theme tune: Conan the Barbarian, was quite the contrarian He's sailed the seas, and kissed the breeze, Now he's KiiiIIng of Aquilonia. Dum de do do dum...

Logo looks like a Saturday morning animated show for kiddies. And with Aaron writing it you be sure it will be very cartoonish in a bad way.
