HPL to Clark Ashton Smith on March 22, 1929: “By the way - that tale has just earned me an interesting letter from a curious old lady in Boston, a direct lineal descendant of the Salem witch Mary Easty, who was hanged on Gallows Hill Aug. 19, 1692. She hints at strange gifts and traditions handed down in her family, & asks me if I have access to any antient [ancient] secret witch-lore of New England... I shall answer the letter, & see if I can get the good old soul to relate some of the whispered witch-traditions! A story of Salem horror based on actual "inside dope" from a witch-blooded crone would surely be a striking novelty!”As far as I can tell, nobody has ever ascertained exactly who the "old lady" in question was.

That same director directed centurion shortly after, a move about Romans harassing Picts and the Picts resorting to horrible measures in response. What a coincidence
Side note:Neil Marshall doesn’t understand Howard’s tone (esp Bran Mak Morn stories) at all but that does not deny the influence in other dress and respects.

He actually had several (at least three are listed in Lovecraft's Library, and this may be a fourth one).

It was given to HPL's mother and has his death recorded in it. This must have belonged to one of the aunts after HPL's death (and possibly prior to that as well). My guess, anyway.

Darn skippy that'd be cool. I've wished for years there could be more serious HPL films. I guess the problem is that much of Lovecraft's allure is in his descriptive prose which can be depicted in a film in moments. The shortness of the material would be a breeding ground for non-fan writers to fill with tons of TnA shots and silly stuff. I can only imagine my disappointment if I sat through a modern-day production of The Lurking Fear . . . and it was about a bunch of college-aged, boozing frolickers staying at a lake-side cabin. What I really wish they'd pursue is the Kadath stuff. Frakkkkkk. That'd be so wicked. The dream-cycle stuff also has the horror elements most are enamored with, and is probably my favorite material by HPL (Dream-Quest is the theme of two paintings I've done which shows how big a fan I am).

I'm curious as to how Stanley will approach it. His Moreau script was a very good translation of the original story for the then current times. Hopefully this will be better than Die Farbe, which started out pretty well before getting a bit too cute with its narrative trickery.

I'd like to see it happen, it's one of HPL's finest works and with the right director and budget it could be great. Can't really say if Stanley's the guy who can do it since all I've seen from him is "Hardware" and the segment in "Theater Bizarre" that was based on CAS's "Mother of Toads" but he is wearing a Shub-Niggurath t-shirt in that pic so I'll give him some XP for that. If it ever does get made the bar for movie adaptations of Colour is pretty low, I haven't seen Die Farbe but Die Monster Die isn't that great and The Curse tries to follow the original story a bit closer but ends up being goofy, however Claude Akins space acne is a high point.
