- - Gerry Anderson must have been into Lovecraft when he created Stingray and the Fishmen race?

Lovecraft wrote of Nitocris the "Ghoul-Queen" in Beneath the Pyramids. Other Mythos authors followed suit.

Hi Deuce. Thanks for all your posts. i have been reading about Nitocris. >> here is a short tale i found... 'mirror of nitocris' [ in 4 short parts ] myweb.tiscali.co.uk/thelemur/cthulhu/Mirror%20of%20Nitocris.html==my review== lots of varied lovecraftian lore + special items plenty of interesting characters [ + their backgrounds ] entertaining tale and worth reading. no grim horrific horror, and ending was tame, but i still enjoyed it. Rating = 7 /10. = some small preview bits = ...Dickie raised some eyebrows by using his African flywhisk around the Mirror and the Blood Ankh. He got a strong impression of Evil from the Mirror, and recognised some terrible creatures of Nyarlathotep in the bronze carvings that surround the mirror. He also recognised some genuine magical symbols on the Blood Ankh, and got the impression it might be magical in some way. ...Turnbull grabbed the mirror and put it in its pre-fabricated carrying crate, although he had a nasty turn when he picked it up (feelings of incredible depths in the mirror, of being watched etc). ====

Lumley seems to be a great guy from what I've read with an interesting life. He's not just an HPL fan, he's also an REH and Merritt fan (and I would guess a fan of ERB as well). That said, his Mythos stuff has never done all that much for me other than a few random tales. I prefer it when he writes in his own universe like he did in his "Necroscope" books. As far as Nitocris, this is interesting: www.ancient.eu/Nitocris/I'm writing up a Mythos history of Nitocris at the moment working just from HPL. Turns out, I'm making many of the same arguments/choices as outlined in that article. I'm fairly neutral regarding the actual existence of Nitiqret/Nitocris, but the plausibility is certainly there.

Thanks Deuce. i wasn't sure if the tale was by Lumley [ but it felt like his style - a bit like a Titus Crow adventure ] [ i enjoyed some of the Crow tales, but the space travel in the cramped clock, and the dreamlands bits, were too silly for me ] I lapped up the 1st 3 or 4 Necroscope books [years ago], a very clever twist on vampire lore by the inventive Lumley. But i got bored after 4 books and left it. [ i just saw that he milked it for 15 books and more ] [ i dont blame him if it was still very popular. i may read more in future years? ] >> Any recomendations for further necroscope reading, please? I look forward to reading your 'Mythos history of Nitocris' when you are ready, please? Best wishes, Bux [ look after your ghouls: keep them shaven for the Queen of Tongues...]

Best wishes, Bux [ look after your ghouls: keep them shaven for the Queen of Tongues...] I only read the first four Necroscopes myself. The fourth one wasn't as good as the first three and I never got around to reading any more. Lumley's concept of vampires seems to be similar to what REH's ideas about them were. For that matter, somewhat similar to Ann Rice's. My Nitocris stuff is part of a bigger project. I'll let you know.

The mysterious multi-millionaire Dagonis Macro-Schill set up a big fancy riverboat/casino in the Florida swamp. He was very generous and invited a lot of celebs and wealthy, for free. He liked to dress up as the sea-god 'Dagon': but he insisted that all his guests ignore him and pretend he was not there. The thrilled guests later marvelled at his authentic costume/disguise, and at his powerful fast swimming under the water. A gorgeous tall blond actress was last seen cavorting naked with the very tall dagon-act. Seven weeks later, her bloated battered body was found on Innsmouth beach by a regular FBI patrol. It was rumoured that fish spawn/eggs filled her corpse. Macro-Schill is on holiday on a remote Pacific island, and is wanted for questioning. == [ Deuce: thanks for the pic ]
