Thanks very much, Jason. that is a very good & very interesting detailed essay about Amazon Heroic Fantasy. [ warrior amazons ] i had no idea that so many books + novels / tales had been written about Amazons over the years. And so many female writers, too. They must have inspired many artists & photographers to create Amazon scenes? -- > so have any of you read 'The Encyclopedia of Amazons: Women Warriors from Antiquity to the Modern Era'. by Jessica Amanda Salmonson ? [ it sounds fascinating ? ] ==== ==== >> please post any more related links to info, books, and art /photos in here?

Thanks for the links Bux, and the new threads!
And thanks to Walgeist too for providing a new home for Bux's threads.
Our web community would be more robust if we help support his forum as well as here. I'm hoping that once the new REHF forum goes live we'll frequent all three forums and help keep all three active. I think the sudden closure of the old place has shown how vulnerable a web community can potentially be.
Thanks for your JAS link as well Jason.

Can you find any OLD women in modern fantasy? I'd like to see more of those. After all, old women filled an incredibly important role in the early civilisations. Concidering how hard the part of a woman in general was, starting from hard work to build and provide for the home, constant pregnancy to giving birth a dozen times on average in their lives,to bringing up children and passing on knowledge and culture, and occasionally defending the homes when the men were away etc. etc. A woman reaching an old age was a very respectable thing in the ancient past, and it's a shame that they aren't really brought up so much in fantasy. After all, they could be concidered "the toughest of them all!"

After all, they could be considered "the toughest of them all!" Yes. Old women still rule much of the world Today [ from behind the scenes of wealth & power ] Behind most successful /powerful men is a powerful clever wise [pushy?] old mother, grandmother, old auntie, etc... Most ambitious men like to think they are in charge? Most clever cunning women like to let their man think that way. That system has been perfected by women over thousands of years. -- Rock on, Ladies !

Can you find any OLD women in modern fantasy? I'd like to see more of those. David Gemmell writes a few characters like that in his Heroic Fantasy yarns - Megan from Morningstar being one good example, and Hewla from his Drenai tales. Then there's the Morrigu from his Rigante tales, though technically she's a Seidh rather than human. From REH himself of course (though not as modern) there's Zelata from Hour of the Dragon/Conan the Conquerer, among others ... who is an instrumental personality in the whole plot. And also Akivasha from the same yarn ...
