Here's Henry Cavil himself breaking down the fight scene with Renfri and her crew: Amazing, what a brilliant idea, using part of a sword and building the rest up with CGI for those tricky contact shots. I remember years ago watching something where someone mentioned camera shots and juxtaposition where two elements where placed together, but what we are seeing here is the clever use of CGI to bring an even greater depth of realism to those difficult action scenes. A combination of clever angle shots, perfect timing of the actors/stunt team, and of course some well done CGI. Personally, I prefer well done action scenes like the above to the monster fight shots, although well executed monster confrontation segments are always pleasing too. Thanks Von K.

Yes it was a great combo between cinematograpy, fight choreography, and cgi enhancement, plus I think they threw in a few nods to the fight moves from the games.
Youtuber Shadiversity does a full one hour run down of the fight comparing it with his experience of real medieval combat. Worth watching if you've the time and inclination, though I sometimes wonder if things can get unreasonably analytical in these days of high definition freeze frame detail.
The general difficulty of portraying the fantasy elements is probably part of why it took the film industry this long to catch up to it's potential. They cracked the superhero genre starting with Raimi's Spiderman and Favreau's Ironman. I guess LotR and GoT did the same for fantasy.

New Dan Carlin alert! This is not a drill! I repeat, this is not a drill!
Three and a half hours on Alexander the Great's Dionysus worshipping, snake handling, absolute badass of a mom Olympias.

I like how he switches voices when he quotes other sources.

Dan's one of the best ever. I did listen to that one. it was full of ideas I promptly ripped off for my bronze-age stuff.
I am starting to lean towards Alexander being assassinated, but it seems like there would have been easier ways to do it than how the theory that was presented suggests.

Nice! Can't wait to see this after listening to Carpenter Brut's soundtrack. When you have seen the Turbo Killer video you know you have to watch Blood Machines.
