I have this book in my collection. Read it years ago, but I don't remember the plot. Being an artist, I liked the cover- except for the awkward pose of the female. Conan deserts from the Turanian Army. He ends up in a city of northern Zamora--the City of the Spider God. He supports himself by being a smith. He meets one of the temple girls. He rescues the temple girl from being eaten by the Spider God. Pretty straight forward plot.

Thanks for the plot outline. I'm going to reread it tonight. It's not Howard, but it's a Conan yarn, and I'll read anything published about Howard's characters.

But given the reputation of this book, I doubt the execution was up to snuff.

And, I am one of those who likes de Camp's Conan stuff. There is definitely better Conan out there to read.

I have not read this-nor do I ever intend to! I have enough common sense to avoid a pastiche with THIS much infamy surrounding it. A Reddit user once insisted that I read this to know what it truly means to suffer in life, I considered taking him up on his advise, but decided to do otherwise. There will be enough pain in my life; no need to add more unnecessarily. I have read the Roy Thomas adaption, and it was pretty lame!
