Mel Gibson or Nicolas Winding Refn. I wont say a word about Mel, his movies speaks for them selfs, and enyone who watched Refn's Valhalla Rising, highly underestimated movie imo, knowh how bloddy realistic and gore his work can be. If enything, that's the kind of treatment I wish for Conan movie

I want to thank you for posting this directors name. Before your post I had no clue about this guy. Out of curiosity I checked out some of his work, watched Brawl In Cell Block 99 and Dragged Across Concrete. Also read one of his books-Wraiths Of The Broken Lands. I do kind of regret reading that book, it was little too disturbing for me! I agree with you, Zahler would direct a great Conan film! I'll get around to watching Bone Tomahawk soon.

What about Genndy Tartakovsky on an animated Conan series or movie?

I look forward, greatly, to an adult-oriented Tartakovsky series! ANY adult-oriented Conan animated series or movie would be amazing.

Bone Tomahawk is one of the most Howardian movies I've seen.

Miguel Sapochnick... too bad they cancelled that Amazon series or we would’ve been able to see that realized. A lot of people said that his big battle episode on the last season of GoT was too dark, but my 1080 pirated download of it was perfect after a few clicks on my monitors gamma slider. That was perhaps the best episode of that series, certainly the best battle- and one of the best battles I have ever seen in a film medium. It’s really too bad- watch that episode (S08E03) and imagine The Scarlet Citadel or The Hour of the Dragon done like that. We all really missed out on that show not going through.

Zack '300' Snyder. Del Toro. Neil Marshall (Centurion was superb.) The sexually-confused Mr/Ms Michael J Bassett of Solomon Kane fame. Roland Emmerich (after watching 10'000 BC). Just my tuppence.

Pete Travis. He absolutely nailed Dredd. I bet he would do the same for Conan.

Pete Travis. He absolutely nailed Dredd. I bet he would do the same for Conan. Travis did indeed do a bang-up job on Dredd, but with Alex Garland writing and producing the film, he had very specific creative direction onset, so much so that after he wrapped the film, he left Garland to put the film together saying "This is pretty much your film anyway." A Conan director needs to be someone with artistic vision, passion and commercial sensibilities, which is why i think Mel Gibson is the first choice. No 'Hack' directors like Brett Ratner, Stephen Sommers, Justin Lin (even though i loved his F+F films) or their ilk. And i still hold that Roland Emmerich made the best Non-Howard film in years with 10'000 BC. Zack Snyder does Conan? Only if he specifically the original Dark Horse graphic novels from Nord and Busiek! A left-field choice could be Indian director Tarsem Singh of 'Immortals' fame, though he may not be to everyone's taste...

I wouldn't mind giving John Woo a shot at Conan after seeing Red Cliff.

Roland Emmerich should have been publicly lynched after Godzilla. He is one of my most loathed directors.

Roland Emmerich should have been publicly lynched after Godzilla. He is one of my most loathed directors. Emmerich made Godzilla a mere 21 years ago in 1998, i think that since then we have had any number of decent films from him, his lacklustre Independence Day sequel not withstanding; he is a solid director, doesn't use flashy camera-work, and knows how to draw an epic canvas. I seriously thought that 10'000BC was going to be a cheesy B movie, but was totally wrong. He got the mythic quality of it spot on.
