I'm wondering if the experts round here can help? I've just pre-ordered the final Chronicles of Conan volume of Marvel reprints and having got the lot I'm trying to plan what to get next.
Sadly I'm not in a position to just buy everything, but I'd like to have all the milestones - Conan's seizing of the throne, the birth of Conn, final appearances (chronologically) of Conan, any appearances of recurring characters that play an important role (Olgerd, Yedzigerd etc).
I'm curious to know what people think are the important milestones for the character and where they appear. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, Thakbreath. One absolute milestone would be Conan#100. Belit dies, the QotBC arc ends and just a well-done issue all-around.

Thanks for the welcome, Deuce, I've lurked here for a while, it's nice to start posting.
I loved the extended Belit storyline. The Roy Thomas stuff was what made me go from picking up the odd reprint here and there to collecting the entire CtB run.

Much of the main milestone stories I would say actually appear in Savage Sword of Conan. Many of the Howard stories appear there, as do the stories about Conan taking the throne.

The large sized Red Nails epic by Smith is pretty darn amazing. My personal favorite is issue twenty called Black Hound of Vengeance. That just blew me away, original story by Thomas and mind blowing art by Smith at his apex. Those two comics are crack my friend.

The siege of Makkalet is a great arc; it captures the duplicity of civilization quite well.

Marvellous, thanks chaps. I've got all the Chronicled of Conan reprints, but I've just ordered the Barry Smith collections again, as you're right, the stories in there deserve to be in a swanky hardback.
Which volumes of the Savage Sword reprints would you say contain the pivotal stuff?
I've ordered the first three, but there's no way I can afford all 22, so I need to pick and choose. I'm also wondering if any particular volumes of the King Conan reprints have any particular milestones?
(I might be misremembering, but I think I read somewhere something about a story in which Conan abandons throne and family and wanders off never to be seen again).

Get the Roy volumes, the first six or seven and the last three or four. King Conan, again stick with the Roy stuff. I think they manage it in the first two volumes. We're still waiting for a complete reprinting of Conan of the Isles (though the first chapter from Annual 7 was reprinted in Chronicles), as well as the Giant Size issues with Hour of the Dragon and the rest of the graphic novels.

The Savage Sword has some great art, and you'll love the first 3 volumes, they are mainly REH adaptations. The 'black and white' magazines, in my opinion were a lot more atmospheric and the extra pages complimented the REH Conan stories. Midway through the third volume, Marvel acquired the rights to the DeCamp pastiche Conan, but, with Roy Thomas at the helm, even DeCamp's Conan is tolerable, and the beautiful artwork of John Buscema and the talented Filipino inkers also helps (I'm slightly biased, sorry). By the 6th volume (there are Thomas stories in this volume), Roy Thomas left Marvel and the main writer on Savage Sword was Michael Fleisher, this is when the writers start completely undoing the consistency of the Roy Thomas run. If you like Buscema, he's still there till volume 9, ending with issue 102. Concerning Volume 10 and beyond there were various new writers introduced, like Don Kraar and Chuck Dixon, accompanied, mainly by the art of Gary Kwapisz. The Dixon/Kwapisz run was gritty, and had some pretty good issues, especially the ones with the Picts. But, one thing to remember is that there's some great art in some of these issues, but, the post-Thomas era is a mess, continuity wise - and there seems to be a carelessness about the consistency of the Hyborian Age of Conan. Roy Thomas also returns with the last comic in volume 18 till the last volume 22. Or, to keep it short and sweet, I'd reccomend the first 5 volumes for starters. Hope that helps.

Great advice guys, thank you, keep it coming. Just ordered some early and late volumes of SSoC.
Has there been any hint from DH that we'll get the Marvel OGNs? I just ordered Conan of the Isles, but it looks like there were several and I'm not sure if I fancy tracking them down individually if we're due a nice reprint collection in the once DH have got all their other reprints polished off.

It's been an open question what DH will do about the reprint series once they finish with the Chronicles series. They'll have collected the three main series (CTB,SSOC, King Conan/Conan the King). The next series up would be Conan the Adventurer (likely 2 volumes for the 14 issues) and Conan the Savage (one big phone book for the 10 issues). But they still have to go back and reprint the issues noted above. Watch the DH solicits in the months to come and see what turns up.

Hi all, I am an oldĀ member of the previous forum and connected to several old ones. To precise, I only talk of Comics I believed to find here some continuation with high level discussions on Conan comics but after some time I am consterned by the level of threads. Discussing here of 2019 Marvel issues is so poor, there is nothing in when you have been loving Conan for xxx years. There is nothing here, nothing at all... Is it decided by the mods or almost nobody here knows what was Conan is in Comics? Marvel 2019 is awful Threads are only on new releases, posts of announcements by Marvel, links to reviews. Nothing else Any way to see this change? We can see that the old ones with the memory have left, do not contribute. Sorry to say that Jb
