Yeah, Vampire Hunter D is the best clone ever created, am writting 2 pastiches of him but they are currently on hold as most of my time is now dedicated to my board games. I love both D films. Even the first one still holds up, and Bloodlust is gorgeous. I have a ton of the DH Press light novels due to donating to a Humble Bundle campaign, and I look forward to reading them. Can you imagine Madhouse doing a Solomon Kane anime?

I like this Frazetta Death Dealer inspired shot from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, this is a real shitty image of it, though. The actual movie on Bluray is insanely well done. This is from a ripped fansub.

I would love to see Yoshiaki Kawajiri coming back to the directors chair in a Solomon Kane anime series or movie, it would break the internet so hard

Here's a nice new writeup of the first Vampire Hunter D light novel. www.asianbooksblog.com/2023/10/vampire-hunter-d-by-hideyuki-kikuchi.html?m=1

I havent read any of the novels but am planing on, also I remember that Heroic Signatures mentiones an animated Solomon Kane series on way earlier development but if Conan has take forever (and its yet to be released) I can imagine how long it would take for them to use any other characters but Monolith games mentiones doing an TTRPG soon

Belatedly, thanks for the kind words, Alexander. I'm glad you enjoyed "Swords of Havoc," and I'd be the first to agree it isn't a smidge on "Shadow of the Vulture." That was the reason the characters were written as pastiches of Red Sonya and Solomon Kane, and not as the real gen themselves. I was comfortable suggesting characters modelled on Howard's, but only REH could do justice to the authentic Sonya and Kane. I wasn't much concerned about copyright and TM issues, since others seem to be writing Kane and Conan pastiches without the blessing of the rights-holders. At that, my stuff hardly poses a threat to Heroic Signatures in terms of cutting into their revenue. In retrospect, I would have discarded the fantasy/horror elements and a brief sex scene. With the latter, I had the idea that if REH had lived into his seventies, he would have gone the same route in writing for the sexually freer market of the 1970s. But it's a little jarring, now that I re-read the story. "Whispers in the Skull" is at least as good as most of Lin Carter's Howard pastiches--admittedly, not a high bar to reach!

The sex scene did seem out of place in a REH pastiche but I didn't want to sound negative in my comment while I actually enjoyed the stories very much. Yes it's not Howard's prose Yes they are not SK of Sonya but are they good adventure and sword and sorcery stories? Damn yes!!! I wish you'd written more

For those interested "The Dark Lands" is at £2.99 on Amazon.co.uk and $3.02 on Amazon (Kindle). Some reviews are so-so but for such a low price I decided to take the risk and bought it yesterday.

It's author Markus Heitz is one of the most successful fantasy writers of Germany. The Dark Lands is one of his less important novels though.
