It's been a long time since I purchased a DC product but I decided to give the upcoming run of Detective Comics a shot. leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/4874523/detective-comics-1062It’s a new era for the detective of the night as we introduce award-winning new series writer Ram V. (CATWOMAN, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr), and artist extraordinaire Rafael Albuquerque (AMERICAN VAMPIRE, SUPERMAN/BATMAN)! Together, they’ll be turning Gotham into a tragic yet beautiful gothic opera for our eyes and ears to feast on. Something is terribly wrong with Batman. No matter the tests Bruce takes, nor the numbers he counts, the greatest detective in the world can't pin down the source of this creeping dread—of his own inner demons and a looming mortality. Meanwhile, real demons roam the shadows as an ancient melody haunts the Gotham night. Here now the curtains rise and as the eerie tune streams in…who is human, who is demon, who is to tell? As Batman investigates the songs and the demons of Gotham, he is forced to confront the oldest question…whether there has been a demon within him all along…and if so, what does it want?…and why hasn't it taken over yet?

Pre-ordered this as I enjoy the artist's work and he's my favorite Podcaster. Walt's twitter: twitter.com/sundayjeff?t=pZsz0x83UtCavKpknqfTZw&s=09frankiescomics.com/products/44929KNIGHTS OF THE FIFTH DIMENSION #1 (OF 4) (W) Van Heel, Casey (A) Flanagan, Walter (C) Flanagan, Walter BLUE JUICE COMICS StockID: 44929 SKU: MAY221306
The stories of the Knights are REAL…and your dreams are sorely needed! William 'The Wizard' Gardener is a reclusive comic book creator and artist who has been the sole voice of the legendary PSYCHEDELIC KNIGHTS OF THE 5TH DIMENSION for decades. From comic books to toys and action figures- from cartoons to film- William is the latest of a long line of artists- poets- writers & musicians tapped to inspire creativity in man in order to combat Vanta Black's spread of self-doubt- despair and hopelessness in our world. But William grows old and tired- and his once-revered comic book series is now relegated to flea markets and bargain bins across the world. Years ago- William enlisted the help of up-and-coming writer/artist Kurt 'The Great One' Gideon to carry on the Knights legacy- but after a short and successful run- a disillusioned Kurt turned to fame and drugs- becoming an industry pariah. After years of silence- William needs Kurt's help again…but it's not with inking or coloring. Will Kurt continue William's legacy and join the long line of dreamers and artists who have kept Vanta Black from seeping into our dimension for generations? And in the comic-within-the-comic- join Kree-Gah- J0N 3:16- Professor Amorphous- The Damned Yankee- and the Spiral Architect as they battle The Primordial Evil- all while Vanta Black grows more powerful. Just past the edges of our understanding- Kurt realizes that his once colorful stories have real-world consequences and he is needed to journey beyond our dimension- to the parallel universe he once believed to be fantasy- and join the resistance in the ancient struggle between good and evil. Only then can he save both worlds. KNIGHTS OF THE 5th DIMENSION is a love letter to Bronze Age comic books and an homage to the Jack Kirby creations that still adorn comic book shelves- movie screens- and TV sets everywhere. From the minds of artist Walter Flanagan (BATMAN: THE WIDENING GYRE- AMC's COMIC BOOK MEN- TELL 'EM STEVE-DAVE)- Writer Casey Van Heel (PALOOKA- THE CIVIL FOUR)- and Colorist Wayne Jansen (METRO- CRYPTOZOIC MAN-) and published by Blue Juice Comics (THE ACCELERATORS- ANNE BONNIE- ÆTHER & EMPIRE). This battle will require more than dreamers…our world needs Knights.

Picking up The Question omni today if I can catch it before it sells out. Loved this character from the animated series.

After dumping off the bulk of my collection, I have decided to buy the Kirby & Ditko omnis once I hit retirement soon. My company allows you early retirement at 55 (which I'll be next year), I may ask if I can push it up six months since I've been with the company over 25 years. Doubt it'll work but doesn't hurt to check.
I'm not going to have enough to play catch up with the Conans, I'll just have make do with digital.

I am striving toward that same goal of retiring at 55, using "The Rule of 55." All these Conan omnis that I have bought are a gift to myself once I hit that mark. I might have to PM you with some questions, johnnypt.

The only thing holding it off is the pension payout. Frustrating I've put in so many years and not really gotten anywhere but once I got to 15-20 years, I did what I could (just lost out on a promotion a few months ago) but if this is as high as I'm going, thanks for the payout and insurance (I'll get health insurance for me and my wife at the current rate for the rest of our lives), I'll be off.

I picked the 1st Batman & Joker issue by Marc Silvestri. It is pretty good, love to see him on Conan again.

Silvestri's run on Wolverine is one of my favorites and the Wolverine Omni Vol 3 comes out in December.
Any thoughts on Batman Hush? It's being released again Delux HC...I know nothing about that story.

Jim Lee's art is the main draw and he doesn't disappoint, some stunning work on that run.

If anybody is interested, Dark Horse is reprinting both the Scary and Eerie EC Archives books, but in soft-cover to make them more affordable. I have a near complete collection of the Eerie Hardcovers, but am missing two that are now EXTREMELY expensive, around 150-300 sold on eBay. I have half a mind to sell the lot and rebuy them in soft cover, probably make some money doing it. It's a shame though, the hardcovers are really nice.
